I am a terrible horder of fabrics! Keep meaning to make things but life gets a bit hectic.
I have just bought some bathtowels from Mr A, for £1!!! and I intend to do some applique on it, a bit like Kath Kidsons ideas in her Make it book.
I made my winter coat, which I posted a picture on another thread a while back. That worked out really well, and the fabric was a guess from a market stall, the patterns I got from Kwiksew.
If I can work out how to post a link I will come back and do it.

I would love a coat that colour but I simply couldn't be trusted, on my grey one you cant really see the chocolate buttons stuck to the back of itYou can stand there and agonize........

Im planning on making a toy bear out of stripey fabric so will need the stripes to match up. Am I correct in thinking that I need to buy a walking foot for my machine in order to do this? Im assuming it would help with making a bag out of patches and scraps I have left over too?
Are these universal? or do I have to find one that fits my make/model of machine (i have an old seamstress machine I got form freecycle its 25 year guraantee ran out 25 years ago lol)
Does anyone have any knowledge in this area? thanks x
I don't think you need a walking foot to make the stripes match up, if that's what you mean. I understand them to be useful for gripping and feeding the top fabric through when doing quilting (the feed dogs underneath pull the bottom fabric).
I do patchwork without one, but I haven't actually got around to quilting by machine yet. I bought a new machine in November and it came with a walking foot: I was in John Lewis yesterday and the walking foot that would fit my Janome was.... £37!!! So they're not cheap. If you can get away without using one it would be an unnecessary expense. Not sure if you could get one if your machine is that old, to be honest.Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

I've been reading this thread lots recently and today bought my first sewing machine
! (the one that's on offer in Lidl - not sure how good it is but figured it would do for a complete beginner like me!). Really excited to get started and luckily a friend of mine has agreed to help me out on Sunday, teaching me how to do the basics, which is very exciting!
Just basically wanted to say hello and that I will keep reading for your fab tips and pictures - lots of inspiration for me - I'm rather in awe of all your skills!0 -

A long time lurker here, I read all of your posts but very rarely post myself.
BUT I have commited myself to wearing a Gruffalo costume for World Book Day on Thursday for my special needs children at school. Please can some one give me some ideas on how to make one. I will be truly grateful. Thanks0
