Hi,was hoping you ladies could help me!
I'm doing a special bedroom for my autistic son and as it's costing 3k plus I've decided to make the cushions and beanbags for the soft corner myself.
I've got a sewing maching (never used!!) and am looking for fabric. It's a space theme room so I'm looking for blue and yellow fabrics for quite a lot of cushions. Most I want just 'normal' but will have a few textured ones too.
Can anyone recommend fabric for plain cushions and any websites etc to buy from as cheaply as possible?
I've got some lovely stuff from fabric inspirations in the past:
It's sold in 1/4 or 1/2m but would maybe be nice to do just a patch on each cushion? Good luck with it and hope your son loves the finished room x0 -
Oooo Beachhut, those fabrics are lovely!!! Do you normally buy a metre minimum or do you always know how much you need before you buy it? I was thinking of just getting some fabric so that I have a stock of it for when inspiration hits me but not sure if thats a bad idea....:smileyhea0

I am a terrible horder of fabrics! Keep meaning to make things but life gets a bit hectic.
I have just bought some bathtowels from Mr A, for £1!!! and I intend to do some applique on it, a bit like Kath Kidsons ideas in her Make it book.
I made my winter coat, which I posted a picture on another thread a while back. That worked out really well, and the fabric was a guess from a market stall, the patterns I got from Kwiksew.
If I can work out how to post a link I will come back and do it.

Cant remember if it was this thread or not where someone was asking about pre printed nametags that you could iron to your projects (inside of bags etc for gifts/selling on etsy) with a logo and your blog address etc. If it was this thread then here is a link.
and a link for sewing in ones
.....How obvious is it that Im not working at the moment!!:o:smileyhea0 -
Hi all.
I'm loving seeing what everyone is doing, the links to blogs and tutorials are great but I've spent a huge amount of time reading them all! Does anyone know how to take a pattern from a clothing item? My daughter has a vest top that I love and would like to try use it for a pattern. Any advice is greatly recieved0 -

This might be easier than using a tracing wheel etc although sure there are more experienced people on here that can probably give you better advice than me. Id probably use tracing or greaseproof paper rather than newspaper though. Instructables website might have some other tutorials on this as well (www.instructables.com):smileyhea0 -

But then I found this no-knit tutorial on how to make them from socks. Most people probably don't need a tutorial for this but I do) I have a big sock collection (destined for sock monkey fame), but am now planning to use at least one pair for arm warmers. (Apologies to the poor socks who were looking forward to a monkey's life) x
ooh, they're lush! what a cleaver mum! :T :T :T
i made some arm warmer/gloves from socks at glastonbury festival about 8 years ago - i had lots of socks but no gloves so it was needs must!
they were knee high rainbow stripy socks. i cut them off at the ankle (didnt think of sewing it up like the tutorial you found!)(i used the foot bit as trainer socks for a while). then i turned/rolled the ankle hem under and stitched down. then i sewed a little ribbon (hanger bits from a tshirt) on about an inch in from one side so that it sits over my thumb so they stay put and dont twist (the tutorial just makes a hole). at the time people thought i was crazy, but 8 years on they are still used and much lovedRelax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23.
