I have loads of links saved but I need to organise or label them if I can as I never know where to start! Arghhhh....
Tete - can I just say your skirt is brilliant. I feel like a fraud posting simple bags and bits like that it must take real patience and skill to make clothes, its my ultimate ambition (not skirts per se as I am not a skirt girl).
I love the peg bag idea, I was thinking I might steal that idea and do a peg bag and a matching carrier bag holder and maybe even a simple tote bag too. My Mum loves cats and my MIL loves dogs so I will have to keep my eyes peeled for some nice fabric on Friday at the craft show.
Just need to find my links now ........
Kandipandi you shouldn't feel a fraud for posting bags and smaller projects. Some of the little things can be just as fiddly as making clothes. The smaller bits make lovely gifts and it is good to see other peoples ideas.
Last year I ordered a singing in the rain umbrella that was faulty and I was told to just throw it away. I have taken the material off and was wondering what to do with it. Through looking at all the ideas that you and others have posted I have decided it would be ideal to make a pencil case and make up bags for my singing mad daughter. It has to be small things to fit onto the material because it is cut in fairly narrow panels. If you and others hadn't posted your pictures I would probably still be thinking what to do with it. In fact it would probably still be buried under the fabric pile because it was a make up case on here that reminded me I still had it.0 -
Oh I can't believe it, my sewing machine isn't working. The needle is getting caught near the bobbin, OH sorted that out now its not picking up the thread. Just don't know if I will be able to get it fixed have no idea if there is anyone locally that services sewing machines. OH said it could be a timing belt but not sure.
I literally had everything cut, pinned and ready to go.Mortgage

Genie thats not good news. Have you tried typing into google what the problem is together with make and model of your machine and seeing if anyone else had the same thing. Ive done this before with other things and it should pick up search results from other forums etc for you to look at that might make the problem a bit clearer. Hope you get it sorted.:smileyhea0

It has just worked for me, not sure how long it will last .Yes thanks did try google but not a lot of answers on there and can't find my model must be that old, did find instructions for one similar so have downloaded them.
I live in Cyprus at the mo so trying to get it serviced could proove difficult. OH said by a new one but that's not very thrifty for me.Mortgage

The sewing shop where I buy my threads and zips etc. doesn't sell machines but does have the number of a man they recommend for servicing so if you have a local shop it may be worth phoning them and asking. Or you could type in 'sewing machine servicing' on yell.com and see if there is anyone local to you.
Hope you get your machine fixed soon.0 -

Thank you, but honestly it isn't that good up close!! Don't feel a fraud, as Rosalie said smaller things are more versatile and often more difficult! If you're serious about learning to make clothes though I'd highly recommend finding out if your local 6th form colleges run an evening class. That's what I'm doing, it runs from October to June and I already feel like I have enough basic knowledge and practice to attempt most things.Kandipandi wrote: »Have a look at the peg bag here its fabulous: I am going to attempt something like this, I will have to buy this book I think there are some lovely bits in there.
I love that pegbag, and think I have just the fabric for it! Thanks!I'm glad you like the idea of the peg bags, I have some wooden hangers that I have had for a while from poundland, so I have to make one for me too, I am using an old carrier bag too - shocking isn't it when I can make one!:rotfl:
Ooh thanks for this, was wondering where I coud get cheap hangers from!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
in-the-beach-hut I've just tried to post a comment on your blog and when it brings up the word verification thingy there isn't a box to type it in so I couldn't do it. Don't know if you want to check your settings out? (confused)
Thanks hun - I've hopefully sorted it now (crossed fingers....) Also an opportunity to discover new settings I never knew existed :j Thanks again Lucy x0 -

I use normal polyester wadding (if you put wadding into a search on Ebay you will see what I mean, prices vary, but you can buy from lots of places). For bags I usually use a 4oz wadding. I usually cut it to the size of the bag piece, then spray with some temporary spray adhesive (you don't need that, but it helps), stick it to the lining. Now press with a hot steam iron from the fabric side. It will flatten and become fairly stiff. It is easy to sew through and gives the bag some body.
I am unable to post a photo, otherwise I would show you some of my bags.
Thank you wadding guru :j That makes sense now - I'll give it a go... I used iron-on pellon last night (read the instructions this time which helped) and it seems to have worked better. My bag is a lot sturdier than the last one I made so I'll use the pellon up first before trying the wadding (MSE head in gear again...) Thanks again for investigations  and advice gemsmember and sunshine (and others!) xx
