Can I join please? I have recently started quilting and have several on the go at the moment! I have been on a quilting course, but due to being busy at home/work I haven't finished any of them. I have started watching different parts on youtube to try to learn. the quilts I am doing are all different blocks - nothing like a challenge for starting!
Ihave seen on youtube spray glue being used as basting - has anyone any experience with this and how did you get on with it?0 -
I made a start on the hat for YD to wear. The base bit was easier than I thought it would be (its more a fascinator than hat) but the flower was really hard to do. I havent fixed it on yet, going to ask YD her opinion and let her sort of design it herself with the net, flower and feathers.0

Am I being too ambious.
A bit of background - im recovering from a serious and horrible illness and me and my nurse decided that thru 2013 I would set myself small goals. Anyway i have quite a listbut they are only small goals like making my own bread and jams or finishing my cross stitch (which i've nearly finished):j. Anyway I decided to take a sewing course which turned out to be patchwork which is great and Im really enjoying it. So anyway on my list ive put that I would love to make a roman blind for my downstairs loo and to make a rail fence quilt, ooh and cushions. Now bearing in mind I have over ten months to do this I didnt think that was bad. However the course tutor said Im not going to pull it off and I was aiming to high and that roman blinds are really hard to make. Now Im starting to doubt myself.
Now im not naturally crafty and lack vision but ive took to a sewing machine pretty quickly and can sew a pretty dam good straight line..... Id be !!!!!!ed if I used a pattern thats not straight lines lol
Anyway just wanted to rant.....sorry guysI'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!JUST LOVES THE O/S BOARD0 -
Roman blinds aren't that difficult if you take it slow and make sure you check your measurements properly. They only really involve sewing straight lines so I don't see why you shouldn't be fine. The worst bit is hanging them up, so if you aren't well enough to climb up steps it would be a good idea to get someone else to do that bit for you.
I did mine from a book but I am sure someone on here could point you in the direction of a good online tutorial. I have recently had to replace one of the cords in mine and I found ebay was a good source for the cord and I am sure all the other bits could be bought from there too.0 -

Been a bit AWOL here of late, life has kept me on my toes!
I haven't completed any projects yet, but I intend to do something about that.
I have a quilt that needs starting, I had been waiting for delivery of a rotary cutter and self healing mat but it hasn't arrived and sadly never will now. I will have to stick to old fashioned fabric scissors and a ruler for now
I also need to make a blind for my daughters room, she has one of those awkward little windows where a single curtain would look a little odd. I was a bit nervous at first as it sounded complicated but had the new sew magazine delivered and it has a good tutorial so hopefully it will be easy to follow.
I will probably start some bunting for my daughters room at the weekend, just to ease myself into it:)
Comping wishlist for 2017

I didn't. I bought the fabric and used dowelling for the rods and curtain rings to thread the cords through. It might work out cheaper to buy a kit though by the time you have bought all the individual bits.0 -
I had a quick look on eBay for kits. They were quite cheap ( depending on size). Will have a measure up. Ive got plenty of fabric.
Just like to thank you all. I find you very inspiring and you always answer my questions. ....... so ive added another goal to my list. ......to find a question you can't answer lolI'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. agreed roman blinds are not hard, i've now done 2 decorative ones, 1 black out version and a non pullable muslin type one for my house, the blackout version for my bedroom is quite a size with 3 cord running up the back.
as rosalie says check your measurements (measure twice, cut once) & make sure you remember your dowel pockets in your length.
I got cord & rings from ebay/local furnishing fabric shop & dowel rod & eyelets from b&q
edit; my smaller ones are attached to a batten with velcro & the larger have a large dowel running through the top supported on blocks at each side which is abit more stable for the width- Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted
