You really need to press hard to hold it down steady and go slowly up the side with the cutter. You can get a handle for a rule that has a suction thingy on the bottom that you attach to it so you can hold onto the handle. I dont have one so not sure where they sell them but have seen them at shows before and they look good.
I got my suction handle from eBay it was only a few pounds I think I've had it a few years so cannot remember exactly0 -

Is it a wide ruler with little grippy bits on the underside they are supposed to hold onto the fabric better than the completely smooth quilters rulers.
Mine has like circles that are slightly rough on the underside but you do still have to hold it down firmly.
I span out my hand at the bottom and then cut slowly to about six inches past my hand then stop and move my hand up the ruler and cut again my ruler is about 24 inch long so if I am cutting a full pass I would place my hand down three times if that makes sense
This is a quilt along video but she shows how to cut fabric it will explain what I mean you may find it helpful

I would add though you don't need to use two rulers also she cut on the rit of the fabric with the bulk of the fabric on the left but you cut have the fabric on the right and the ruler on the left and you should be ale to line up your 2.5 inch line on the left edge of the fabric and cut to the right hand edge of our ruler so ou are working from left to right does that make sense
Watch it to about six mins in and you should see what I mean as she does cut some of the small fabric this way but her big pieces she cuts the other way for some odd reason0 -
I'm a very infrequent visitor here but you have advised me well in the past so thought I'd try again.......
I have lost the metal covered press stud 'popper' from a quilted jacket. There were no spares with the jacket. It's hardly been worn but looks scruffy with the middle fastening missing. I wrote to the firm who makes the jackets but they haven't been able to help.
So, my question (s)
There is a neat hole where the stud was - if I can get a suitable replacement or even a whole new set how do I fit them? Do they need a special tool? I've got a crop-o-dile and a device that fits metal eyelets, can they be used to fit studs?
It's quite a trek to the haberdashers so thought I'd ask here before I make the journey.
Thank you for any useful suggestions0 -
I've just started sewing and would like to make a bag/tote for my mobility scooter basket on the front to help with my shopping but I can't find a pattern.
Does anyone know of anything suitable I could use as I'm not too good at making up my own designs/patterns as yet!0 -
is there anything here you could use or adapt

Ok provocraft made the cuttlebug machine and dies and sizzix made the big shot machine and dies and yes originally they were for paper crafters but sizzix brought out some dies for quilters which they could use in the big shot however the dies also fit through the cuttlebug so can be cut in that too.
Yes they actually cut the fabric shape out, in specialist quilting dies I've only got two, the tumbler design I got for Christmas and I've just bought myself which has arrived today the qrt sq triangle die which for doing pin wheels or just half and qrt sq triangles will make things a lot quicker and easier.
I've also got some other dies that are good for applique like a big flower in three sizes and a big cupcake
Hope that now clarifies.
Here's a video using the big shot but the scallop square die used first I have and cut with my cuttlebug
