Hmo can you tell me what feet I would need for quilting. I have a quarter inch foot and that's it.I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!JUST LOVES THE O/S BOARD0

Hi all, haven't posted in a long long time but do lurk a fair bit and am always impressed and inspired by your work. Here is what I did today, a valentine inspired garland to hang in my little craft corner:
Need some advice for another project. Am doing a patchwork type table runner. Have made the front and will cut out the backing but not sure how I should assemble it. Should I sandwich it with batting and finish with bias or use some iron on backing to the pieces and put the sides together and backstitch the rest? any thoughts? this is the front:0 -
thanks all, winniepooh i am not an expert but this is what i have
i have qrt inch stitch on my machine so dont need a special foot
i have a walking foot also know as a qullting foot this is good for sewing several layers of anything together you dont get bunching in your projects, so for things like lined curtains, roman blinds and quilting i use my WF for all straight and fancy stitches on my quilts when i am working with the three layers.
when i am just sewing shapes/squares i just use ordinary foot and qrt in stitch
then i have a free hand foot, also called embroidery foot
like this just scroll down a bit

this is the foot i use for freehand work so all the bits on the white on the quilt above.
hope that helps0 -

if you want borders add them now before doing the following
make a sandwich using fabric for the back about 1 inch bigger all round than the size of the top the fabric should be right side down
then batting/wadding on top of backing wadding should be about the same size as backing
then the quilt fabric on top of that right side up
quilt it how you like ie straight lines, diagonal lines, fancy stitches etc
when done trim away the access backing and wadding
add borders sorry that should be add binding0 -
chocolate is life, i thought i would show you this its a table runner i made my daughter toy box its one of the very first things i every made as a sewing project, she has it on her dressing table at the moment.
i used the left over fabrics from all the patches and sewed them together to make my own binding0 -

What a lovely quilt. Those colours are really pretty.0 -
Thanks hmo, the table runner is lovely and obviously well loved. Think I would have to cheat and buy some bias binding, not sure would feel confident enough to make it. I've never made anything quilted - would it be ok to sew along some of the straight lines to quilt it?0
