HMO, what I did when trying to decide what border to put on my quilt I am doing now was to fold the fabric up in a strip and lay it down the side of the quilt then it would give you an idea of what it looks like with the white border. You could try putting a colour next to it too to see which looks better xx0

Hi I've not measured it yet but it's about 30x36 inch but need birders and binding so will probably be at least 37 x 43 if not slightly bigger by the time I am finished0 -

Hi it wasn't a stencil it was a cutting die by sizzix which I used in my cuttlebug I blogged about just after Christmas.
The die was a Christmas present I asked my SIL to buy for me0 -

I usually like to border my quilts before binding and white does look good but I am wondering if I should do
White + binding
White + coloured border + binding or
No white, just Coloured border + binding
Then quilting I am thinking just free motion quilting just all the white stripe sections and leaving the actual pinwheels in touched but not sure.0 -
Yeah that sounds good HMO. The quilt I am doing has white strips around the little squares, they are not pinwheels though same as yours, they are just four triangle sewn together. I have just used a colour border about 4 or 5 inches wide around this and then will bind it after, not sure what colour to bind with yet, will wait and see when its done. I still dont know what to do about the quilting, I have done a little bit of free motion quilting but always find that after a little while the thread breaks and I keep having to re thread it. I like hand quilting but the time it takes to do it puts me off if I am going to sell it on as I would never get a good enough price to reflect the hours work that has gone into making it.
Are you any good at altering photos? May be if you could take a photo of the quilt laying flat and then doctor the photo so it has a white border you could see what it looks like and then change the colour of the border and see if it looks better or not?0 -
That is lovely. I suppose the boarder depends on the finished size you want. Think I would add a white one 1st.14 in 2014 in memory of Soulie. 5/14 completed:o

yes i am now going to add a 1inch white border all round to tie in with the rest and then choose one of the fabrics to add a coloured border and binding.

Ggggrrrrr its driving me mad I can't cut a straight line even with a rotary cutter. Im trying the cut 2.5 inch strips and its just impossible for me.I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!JUST LOVES THE O/S BOARD0

Winnie, do you have the wide rule now? Its hard to cut with a normal ruler. If you have, is the rule moving about? You really need to press hard to hold it down steady and go slowly up the side with the cutter. You can get a handle for a rule that has a suction thingy on the bottom that you attach to it so you can hold onto the handle. I dont have one so not sure where they sell them but have seen them at shows before and they look good.0
