I was looking up patterns for a needlebook only this morning as mine has become stained - i would say to anyone who wants to make one to use flexible thin plastic inside the covers so it can be washed, as mine has cardboard, which is why I have to replace itYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0

Hi everyone. Im new to this thread and to crafts and sewing. I have been given an old singer sewing machine I have no idea how to use it or sewing in general.
Ive started a quilting course today and I loved it. Weve not got to the sewing machine part yet.
Can anyone give me any tips to master. Or is there something really simple to try the machine.
I hope you dont mind if I have hundreds of questionsI'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!JUST LOVES THE O/S BOARD0 -
Most machines I think thread up the same is there a model name or number on it?
You could google it if there is failing that try putting something like how to thread a singer sewing machine in the search on youtube I am sure some video help will be available
Just find some scraps of fabric and sew straight lines to get a feel for the machine.
Very simple first projects could be something like lavender pockets

Hi talented sewers/crafters, hope its ok to post here but I need help fast
I am going to a wedding a wearing a crimson red Phase 8 dress with lace bodice/sleeves. I bought a fascinator when I was in House of Fraser to wear with this but when I tried dress and fascinator on last night I realised what I thought in the shop was a red and black fascinator with small feathers and flowers is actually sort of deep pink and black. I dont spose anyone is going to notice but I wondered if there is anyway I can dye or colour the flowers/feathers to a dark red please? OH said try a marker pen, but Im a bit dubious about that. I will try to add a photo of said fascinator and would be grateful for any input from experienced people please.0 -

If what you've bought is the pic there, What about getting some ribbon that matches your dress & curl it round over the pink part in the base so you may just see an edge of the pink & leave the feathers as they are quite small & will just be accents of a different colour
You can anchors the tubing with small stitches or a glue gun

What are you having problems with exactly? Start at the beginning as its an old machine.
Does the power cord work, ie ignore threading for now, does the needle track up & down when you press the foot pedal?
'The sewing forum' has a vintage machines board that may be of assistance- Mortgage: 1st one down, 2nd also busted
