Attempting to follow my resolution to use up some fabric scraps here's what I made during some indulgent sewing time yesterday:
A new key ring tab and loyalty card holder. For years I've kept my needles on a scrap of fabric in my sewing box - now I have a needle book. I immediately regretted not making extra 'pages' for it though!
Today's list includes a belt to replace the one on my coat (it's a bit cheap looking so hoping to rectify that with a home made one), a lanyard or two for work, repair the hole in the fitted sheet for the guest bed and take a skirt up. On the subject of the skirt, it's stretch jersey - not a fabric I've worked with before so I'll be doing some trial and error sewing with the strip I cut off. I have a round needle for my machine or pointy twin needle - which is best for hemming? Would a walking foot help? Any other tips? I have the widely reported jersey fear!
Wonderful makes MRN. Amazing what can be made with scraps.
I'm not an expert but use a twin ballpoint needle for hemming. I believe a walking foot is useful but I haven't tried it yet2019 fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons0 -
I tend to use my walking foot for quilting or if making blinds, when you have a few layers its stops the fabric shifting0

That's how I started about 18months ago I made a table runner from fabric I cut into oblongs then last year I made two baby quilts from charm packs, I made this quilt just before Christmas for my little girl this is the biggest quilt I've ever done she has a single day bed. I love it I am so proud of myself and I did all the free hand quilting too.
Then over Christmas I've done the two above0 -
Gorgeous colours on your daughter's quilt Hmo, and well done on the free hand quilting, it looks brilliant xx0

I can't claim that idea as mine... there's loads of online tutorials for needle books. I read a fair number then did my own take on it.
Thanks for the tips for sewing jersey. I played (a lot) with the strip I cut off before finding the right settings and needle/foot combo. I'm glad I did thought because when I came to hemming the actual skirt, it worked perfectly first time. I lined the old hem and the new hem up - very little difference which made me smile! I'm wearing it today! AND... since I'm into using up scraps, I made a headband out of the strip I cut off (well the parts I hadn't savaged during testing!).MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.0 -
