  • Thank you Mrs Mumbles! Mine is almost a thick cardboard but actually I don't think the gum will matter too much as it will be inside the covers I am making
It was a happy day at the tip when I stopped the original owner from hoicking the 6 large and 10 small fabric sample books over into the crusher!
Several fabric patterns but each book is in matching colours to the others, so a lovely palette to work with

Hi, was trying to do the multi quote but I really dont get it right.

I manage to make things quite fast as I have been sewing for many years, and at one stage I was making some 300 wedding dresses, or altering them, and had an adverage of 15 projects on the go each day. It was a case of working fast I guess. mind you I am prone to go at things like a bull in a china shop on occasions these days, as I am not so worried about it being perfect if its for me.
If its for someone else then thats obviously a different matter.!

It took me about an hour to do the kindle case I think, but as I followed a pattern for the Iphone case, that took me an absolute age, and nearly 2 1/2 hours, although I was making two at the same time,( as I always try cut out two at a time if I am following instructions and have enough fabrics_), I didnt quite finish the second one.
Next time I will do the same style with a lot more ease, and the time will probably be about 2/3rds. and possibly down to half when I have done a few more.
I can make a tote bag in around 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on what I am making I suppose.

I wish I had the opportunity to get some of those fabric samples, but as I buy all my stuff on the internet on the whole, I doubt that luck will be mine.

Today, I intend to make something for a little girls birthday on Sunday, (and there is another one coming up the next weekend), so when I get a moment, I will have a rake throught he bits and bobs that I can reach and see what I fancy making. I can make PE bags in a few minutes as I have the fabric at hand, but I already made two of those for the friends that had parties earlier, so it would not be the same for them to be in the same school really.
Time to get on, I have wasted the whole morning trying to sort out My Granddaughters leappad downloads, and then the batteries ran out, (3 sets since christmas) so I have ended up spending a further £40 on the power pack to come in the post. So I dont have to use batteries all the time.
I need to sell something on ebay to find the money back!!! or else where of course.

  • Has anyone seen any cheap Christmas fabric on sale? I found a christmassy robin one at Dunelm Mill for £1.99 per meter yesterday. I have a sudden urge to make Christmas bunting since my Union Jack bunting was commented on by a couple of neighbours as not being a 'real' Christmas decoration!!!
    MFW: Nov 2008 £156k, Jun 2015 £129k, Jun 2017 £114k.

Might be worth looking in charity shops, my local had one today for £3 and a cath kidston-type rose fabric roller blind for £3
Or if you have a local Freecycle, put a request on

I work in one of the local charities, but nobody has donated anything so wonderful as yet! Ah well we never know.
I will put feelers out at the school, you never know a Mum may no someone, or go near a shop somewhere that does.

I finished the second Iphone cover, (still not good enough to pass on, as the tape was a bit too narrow, so the stitching is not straight). Oh well.
I also cut out and have done the main stitching, on the Overlocker, for 12 P>E< bags. I would have finished them off, but I dont have the cords to put in them. I swore I had some, but cannot find it. Will take another look before I think of what else I can use instead. I did use piping last time. Thought I had some left, but I remember now that BF used it to tie the frame of DGD's bed back together, as we didnt have any string at the time.
I do have lots of ribbon, so I may use some grossgrain ribbon instead. Not as good as cord though. Just dont want to spend any more money.

Ah, well done you for rescuing that from the tip, I am shocked that someone chucked that. Do let me know how you get on, it is great to share tips on this thread. I nabbed some mercerised cotton samples, and I know exactlybwhatbyou mean about the palettes giving you ideas. Iused two bits for a bag, lining it with one bit, and it turned out really well. I find lining totes harder, and still am not sure whether to sew the straps inside the bag or on the outside. one day I hope to be such a neat sewer that they will look professional!

Ok, I am now officially very impressed! I spent all flipping day today with my tote. the skirt and dress patterns are sat on my desk scowling at me, waiting to be used!

I am sure you will get there. I probably have 40 years of sewing ahead of you. Although it was not always a job. Just a hobby I had to earn from when the kids were small and I was a single mum.
Given up for the evening now.

She said she was an interior designer and sick of the sight of them! Probably represented a lot of hopes she'd had for the business

The glue is coming off, slowly; soaked swatches in bowl of mild detergent, rubbed off wet card by hand then when nearly dry the rubbery glue rubs off too - slowly

Thank you for all the encouragement!

Mooloo - what do you do with the PE bags? (excuse me if you've already said, I have a whole thread to catch up on)
