  • Hope you don't mind me asking a question. I would be so grateful for advice on where to purchase online some good quality thread for my new singer sewing machine. I'm at a loss as to where to find any as the cheap threads that are around can damage the machine due to all the loose bits on the thread. So I have been reading.

    Thanks in anticipation

Gutermann thread, I'm sure most online haberdashers will have it. I've ordered from Jaycotts a few times in the past and had good service.

I also agree about Gutterman. It can be found in most craft/haberdashery shops and a huge range of colours.

hmo, have you tried cutting off the corners, and using a knitting needle to poke out the corners? You could of course round off the corners, and just ease the gussets in, but the effect would not be as good as the points. I have to confess that the corners are always a sticking point for me.

I made the bunting for the wedding anniversary but had to deliver it so I didnt get the picture of it done. I will have to ask the purchaser for a piccy if they get one!.
I made two PE bags on Saturday, in a Hello Kitty panel that I had bought on the market a while ago. DGD went to a birthday party yesterday for two little girls. So they both got one each.
I know it wasnt much, but at least they are more practical then a piece of plastic toy that will probably break, and at least nobody else will have given the same present.
I am still struggling to sort out a work space, and yesterday I ended up having to clear the dining table and get all my sewing things back upstairs. So the work room is chocca block. The christmas tree is in there as I had to get it out from under the stairs. Now I need to make some more hanging decorations for the tree. Not made anymore this year, and I had so wanted to make some like I did at the WI last year.
Time has just slipped away this year. Its getting faster and faster. Must be my old age!!

    Pennib the quilts are wonderful.

Hmo, may be you should leave out the gusset in the ear bit or try to make it so it has two ears? think this is why you are not getting the point as it isnt going into an exact point once the gussett is in, you need to have just a flat bit like a pennant on bunting to get a good point. Once you put in a gusset it will fatten it out and take away the pointy bit if you follow. I cant really see by your photo just how the gusset goes but on the dinosaurs I made the gussett was just on the underneath bit (ie his tummy) and not on the top bit.

Looking again at the photo, may be if you left the top gusset out completely and still put the other ones in (front back and underbelly) you would get a nice pointy tail and ears xx

    Hi

its basically a front and back shaped dog and a 3.5 inch strip which is the length of the dog all round, if that makes sense.

so i sew the 3.5 inch length all around the front piece of the dog and then i attach the back of the dog to the other side of the 3.5 inch piece.

i leave a gap between its legs for stuffing.

i finally found a video on YT last night of someone doing a cushion with the same type of thing, but it wasnt very clear i think she had the gusset on the bottom and as she got to a corner she snipped the gusset just a little, kept that piece straight and turned the top fabric 90 degrees to form the point.

ive been running it over in my mind trying to workout if that would work for me, as ive been sewing with the gusset on the top.

that could be where i am going wrong?

Yeah might be, try doing it with some old fabric and see if it works xx
