This isn't quite sewing but I wondered if anyone knows where I might buy Christmassy backdrop material from?

I want to make my sons' room into a bit of a Christmas grotto and have seen fabric in the US with snow and pine trees (for the walls) and would like snowflakes or a sky print for the ceiling!

I'm no good at sewing but thought I might be OK armed with a staple gun. Its only a tiny room so should be possible.

    Have a look on Ebay.
There are lots of fabric suppliers also on the No Chat sewing thread.
I buy my fabric on the market, as well.
Its anything around £2.99 up to around £7.99 a metre for Xmas fabrics.
    Hope that helps a bit.

When making the gussets have you tried stay stitching the shape, and then you can clip the curves, making it easier to "bend" the fabric into the contours of the shapes that you are doing. If you need to put them into a smaller place then its a bit like easing a sleeve into its arm hole.

I have been making some more bunting, but typically today when I went to the machine, the dam thing will not keep its stitches? I have tried the usual things. Changed the needle, re threaded the whole machine top and bottom. But for some reason its still missing stitches. I cant think of anything else to do. Except clean it. So thats my mission tonight. If that doesnt work it will have to go for a service again. I will need to take out the other machine and hope that its sewing OK, as I have an order to fullfill.

    Problems with your machine?
    hi
i had the same trouble with zig zag , i have been sewing for 40 years and was about to give up with machine and buy a new one. It was making a strange noise and missing stitches this is what i did.
take the front panel off and look at tension area , a piece of metal that goes up and down(sorry don't know the name)
its were you thread the cotton,
at the right i found cotton wrapped round the gap,
sorry if this makes no sense but i ended up spending 30 mins cleaning out old bits of cotton that must have got stuck when the thread snapped . It is working a dream now and for the first time in a few years i can zig zag without missing stitches. Hope this helps

Go for it! If you can sew then you can quilt. It's just cutting up bits of fabric and sewing them together again. It's a great thing to do at this time of year too as the wadding keeps you really warm as you work! :j

This week I've upcycled a handbag into a pouch to keep my big bag tidy, this morning I've made a door curtain from a sheet and I'm working on a lap quilt for my mum for Christmas. Feeling the inspiration at the minute

Ditching pinterest was the best thing ever, now I make nice things rather than just looking at them.

Well done Alec Eiffel, sounds like you have been really busy xx

I have been making a few bits and pieces for the next craft fair, mainly some more phone cases, and some felt key rings, plus a few other little bits and pieces. Not sure what else to make that will sell and not be too time consuming to make now. Got till Saturday week to get it all done.

    No problem thank you
  • Hope you don't mind me asking a question. I would be so grateful for advice on where to purchase online some good quality thread for my new singer sewing machine. I'm at a loss as to where to find any as the cheap threads that are around can damage the machine due to all the loose bits on the thread. So I have been reading.

    Thanks in anticipation
