tronlegecy; Didn't want to think you were being ignored, think everybody is out in the sun!
Velvet type material is a nighmare to use (I used it once, it seems to fray easily and bit fly about everywhere)
Did you want it for colder weather or summer? I'm not keen on linen for clothing myself as it always looks crumpled (just my opinion tho!) What about a lightweight woolen fabric?
  • Thanks pennib. :)
I had seen a satin back flannel and wondered if that would work, would also do away with the need to line(i think).
Also i spotted an embroidered denim but wasnt sure how difficult it would be to sew.
Probably in over my head with this pattern but wanted a challenge while i will have someone available to help me.

I think the lining is so that all the seams don't show when you take it off, so overall gives a much neater look. Is the embroidered denim all over embroidery, if so would it fray when you cut it? I havn't made any clothes for yonks so I'm a bit out of my depth now :o

Finished my mini sampler, which was quicker than I first thought. Some square were more complicated than others.

tronlegacy, a good lining makes all the difference to the quality of the garment and at your level, it is good for you to tackle, however I understand the reluctance to spend oodles of money on fabric when just learning, so you could make the jacket out or suiting. The style is quiter retro so I think you would get away with something like this in a rich colour.

    and some good lining

Thanks for the helpful advice :)
The denim is embroidered all over,i had no idea it would fray.
I thought lining was just to make the jacket more comfortable on the skin, you can tell im a total noob.lol
Gibson123,I actually saw that material the other day and wondered if it would do.I think i will just go ahead and buy that.
    Thank you all very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Tronlegacy, a couple of people have reviewed this pattern here and used various fabrics. Just enter the number in the search box (miss off the letter).
I think this pattern calls for something medium weight. I never stick to what the pattern envelope says LOL!

Been up in my loft looking for name tapes to sew on DGD's clothes. I have so much up there! I was quite happily getting re acquainted with the fabrics, and have the urge to be making, making and making. But I couldnt find the name tapes.
Still plodding along with the black and white quilting.

I have just bought several copies of the " My Image" pattern books, and Young Image."
I love the patterns, and the fact that you just trace off the things that you want all for the price of less then one packet pattern.
I am going to make DGD and myself some coats. But I bought some back orders as well.
I came across them last year when they actually contacted me asking me to sell thier books on my Mooloos Shop. But I had to explain to them that I didnt have a physical shop.
Of course I could still purchase them in bulk if I wanted too, but its too much of a risk. I dont think I get any traffic at my Mooloo's website at the moment. It needs a lot of work doing on it!. When I get back maybe I will get going and change it.
    Sorry, am rambling again.
    Happy sewing everyone.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.
