Hi All,
Not been on for a while but just wanted to pic your brains. Does anyone know if there is something you can buy to iron your fabric onto to make it stronger before machine sewing together? I am working with worn baby grows at the minute and they are very flimsy.
Thanks

Hi everyone, Has anyone tried making their own luggage tags? I´ve looked at some stuff on internet, but not that impressed.

Hi not sure if anyone has done this or not - have any of the 'pros' Mooloo, pennib etc made duvet sets to sell at all - if so How much did they charge?0

lesley; It's called Vilene I think you can get it in different weights. It will make your fabric a bit stiffer and easier to sew. There are other makes as well.
Sandy; Never made luggage tags. I don't travel much really :0(
Ocemeer; I've never made a duvet set as they are quite cheap to pick up in supermarkets. I do use the material from duvets tho to do other things with. Never been a 'pro' at anything :0D0 -
Morning All
Firstly my apologies if this is something non of you know anything about, but couldn't really find a spot to post this.
I'm trying to locate myself a victorian dress. I've been invited to a haloween do and have decided to take my goth side out for the night he he he
If you google "Victoria Frances" and look at the type of outfits in the pictures this gives an idea of what I'm looking for, although searching the internet has thrown up a few sites but nothing exciting.
Would it be a better idea to find somebody to make one? I can personally master sewing a button on and thats about it. My friend suggested finding a dressmaker although said this could get a little pricey.
If you have any idea or could point me somewhere that may help that would be great.I get what i want. That isn't because i'm a brat or spoilt. It's because i'm determined, i work hard for it and i achieve my goals!0 -

Not made a Victorian outfit, but did make a medieval dress from a pattern (McCalls). If you have never made a dress before, I would be quite wary of starting with one with lots of bodice work etc. Complicated and lots of pieces, can be difficult to get right. But if you are willing to give it a go, then plunge in!!
Check out corset pattern in g00gle...there is a site that generates a pattern once you have plugged in your measurements...for free...All you have to do is work out how to put it together!! If you want to go down the road of getting one made...that can cost mega-bucks!! I found this site for vintage goth ones, not sure what your budget is, but the prices look reasonable.
My medieval dress cost me £45 to make six years ago, including the pattern, but I did use a couple of lovely charity-shop gold velvet curtains and an upholstery remnant, as well as the curtain linings...it took a fair bit of time too, and I have been sewing all my life!! Shame I am too big for it now
Good luck in whatever you do.

Dress looks gorgeous but personally I'd be wary of buying from this site as some of the reviews are less than favourable and their returns policy is a bit 'restrictive'.
I was going to say if you've got two months you've got plenty of time to look in your local charity shops - I always seem to find the most beautiful corset tops (albeit not my size!) for under £5...team up with a full satin skirt (either made or also charity-shopped) and you've got the basis for a one-off costume.
Not trying to put you off sewing but think you might need to start off with something a bit simpler to begin with.
