    Hi SugarSpun,

I've bought tent fabric from Point North (.co.uk) before... I'm not sure if they do canvas or whether it's within budget!

Thank you! I looked them up and while searching for the weight capacity of one of their fabrics I found another site that has parachute nylon for 99p/metre with a capacity of 200lbs/inch :money: A lightweight hammock has to be more useful for pre-teen boys than a canvas one, right?

I've been making my daughter a skirt for school this week - still not finished as I need to add lining.

A few years ago I bought three Turbie Towels for wrapping wet hair in. The bit of elastic on a couple of them had come off. We also could do with some more. I sewed some more elastic on the broken ones, then used one as a template on an old quite thin towel and made four more, so I'm quite chuffed.

Tomorrow I need to finish the skirt.

Sugarspun google deckchair material - Akahban does this on line and you should find other suppliers and e-bay.

Savvybunny the easiest fabrics for dresses are cotton (poly-cotton is cheaper) , lawn and for fancier party dresses satin. For tiny wee vintage look dresses you can make these from vintage pillowcases. You can google lot of ideas for pillowcase dresses. E-bay, and azkaban are good on-line options for fabric and Ikea also do a good range of cottons.

I´ve sewn home made Turbies as well, they´re so useful even when my hair is short

As promised a while ago, here's a photo of the baby pinwheel quilt. There's a few mistakes with the pattern, due to me sewing them in the wrong order but to be honest I don't mind. It was enjoyable to do and I've learnt from my mistakes. I even went on to make a quilted cushion cover with the left over material, though I had to do two sides of the cushion in a different colour material as I just didn't have quite enough.
The worst thing is having all the bits of material and cotton strewn all over the carpet after :)

What a splendiferous quilt Dizzy. Gorgeous colours. (I know what you mean about bits everywhere, but a small price to pay for sewing something so nice) :T

  • Thanks for the lovely comments about the quilt :)
Well done Keiss on the selling front. Hope you work on commission too :)
Had another sew today as GD is staying over tonight so made her some bean bags and a bag to put them in with material I already had in. I had one piece left over from the monkey quilt and she wanted it on the bag. The bag was another first for me with a ribbon fastening.
You're right Pennib, a bit of a hoover after is a small price to pay. Mind you I'm leaving the hoovering till tomorrow now!
    And here they are...
