Duvet Covers are normally made from middle weight sheeting material, lots of people use duvet covers and pillows for sewing with, you can even get lots of patterns for making little girl dresses from vintage pillows.

  • I previously purchased some material from ebay but when it got here I was disappointed because it felt cheap and that has put me off buying online. I want to build up a little collection of fabrics, but where should I start?

Have you been to Fabricland (https://www.fabricland.co.uk). They have a huge selection and their prices are amazing. They don't do anything too specialist but are a brilliant place to build up a nice little fabric collection from.

Hi All, back from my holidays.
Part way through the thing I missed the most was my sewing!. Looking forward to getting caught up in the thrill of it all again soon.
But first its the name tapes time! yuk. Thats sewing I dont like!.
I have used all sorts of fabrics to make cushioncovers, including light weight dress fabrics. But I agree that the furnishing fabrics are the best to use.
Some fabrics I ordered before the holiday has arrived. I have to catch up with Jackies fabrics and let her know she can release my order now as well. Black and white fabrics for my quilting. Hopefully I will have enough then to keep me occupied and make a full quilt.

    Missed my MSE as well!

  • Just thought I'd mention that Argos are having a sale at the mo and I picked up a pair of plain aqua blue curtains for £3.99. Much cheaper than buying the fabric in my local shop. It is a thick 100% cotton fabric.

OO, goodie, Jackies fabrics had remembered and have sent me my fabric today! Yipee. Some black and white and some Christmas puddings print that I had forgotten I had ordered!.
Now that I am back off of the holidays, and as soon as DGD gets to school next week, then I want to get on and start my Christmas sewings during the day, and maybe do some of my patchwork in the evenings. Thats the aim anyway.

Glad you had a good holiday mooloo, still putting name tabs on a few things for DS2..and he's off to Uni in a week! He's studying sport, so he wants to keep track of his socks, kit and towels etc. He has done a few, but I'm speeding everything along, as time is running out!

Monkeynut, have a look in Dunelm Mill...they have a roll-end area, I have made a few bags and cushions with what I have picked up in my local shop. Good luck material hunting and then sewing!

This is what I've been upto this week. A primitive folkart doll. Here she is without her makeup and clothes on! The finished dolly called Vera is on me b*og.

Love the photo of Timmy and Vera together :) I really like the doll Pennib, very unusual and kind of quirky at the same time. Well done :T

    Love it pennib, well done!!

At last got back to the sewing machine after a break of two weeks...been busy making a new handbag for myself...getting there slowly...took out all of the quilting stitching I did on Tuesday...didn't like it, so need to start again!!

Have a good stitching day, lovely and sunny here, though a bit chilly.

    Great Pennib.
I still havent managed to sew this week, too much faffing around. But I hope it wont be long now. Have been asked about helping a friend learn to sew. She wants to be able to make clothes for her kids. So we are going to start in 2 weeks on a Tuesday morning. If nothing else that will get me at the machine!
