It think that the problem with Folksy is it is organised and arranged by like minded people. It is not really something that people see anywhere other then in craft orintated places.
I think that Facebook and networking has to be a way forward.
But will think on it, as I too have to get sorted out, and work out if there is a business out there for me to have. I have to make up the difference on the drop in housing benefit next year, and I also only have a year and a half left of funding for fostering DGD, after that time, the funding may be stopped, unless I can prove that they need to continue the payment, and that would involve going back to court etc. I would rather have my own income to rely on and not the benefits that keep me on the bottom rung of the ladder.
Anything I do learn, I will pass on!.
Keep on sewing, and enjoying your work meanwhile.
Perhaps have a table in a school? or a corner of a shop? Promote your self where ever you go. Always have something you make on you/be using, and alwasy have a business card on you.
Take peoples numbers, email addresses, and ask them to fill out questionnaires, on what they are interested in? you could always give a small item of yours as a draw prize for filling things in?
Right I have to go. I want to make space to get the sewingmachine down stairs instead of in the bedroom.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Thank you Kiess for the website. I will have a good ole rummage around. Would your firm let you stay in fancy hotels on the way up! Would love one of those super duper ones but am not a whizz kid when it comes to gizmos and I think dh will get fed up with me saying......need help with this! I think a Janome will be the best bet, one that lets me do free hand embroidery and has a few other bits as well. This one http://www.sewingmachines.co.uk/JanomeSMD4000_info.htm seems to fit.

Usually it would say on the pattern whether it includes a seam allowance or not. If it doesn't then look at the pattern once printed and see if it looks the right size as it is, if so then add a seam allowance round the edge. If it looks too big then it probably has seam allowances added xx

Thank you. Looked a bit big so assumed the seam allowance was included but now I've made it up it looks a bit skimpy :rotfl:. However , I've managed to wedge all my pegs in and am pleased with how well its turned out. Thanks for the help :)

Oh well, as long as they fitted in lol, if you make another one you will know to add on seams. There is no way of knowing unless people put it on the actual pattern that it has been added, I suppose when they write it out they forget all about it but it is so important to get things the right size when finished. Whats your next project going to be?

Anyone know where I can buy/get hold of rags?

I'd like to make a rag rug - I've posted a message on freecycle for any old/worn/torn/holey clothing etc. but so far no responses.

You could ask in a charity shop if they ever have bags of rags they are throwing out that are unsuitable to sell on

Thanks for the suggestion. When I worked in a charity shop, we had to bag any unsuitable for sale items for a rag man but since it was a formal arrangement with the charity shop and the trader we weren't allowed to do anything other than that with them.

How about boot fairs then, may be if you go late as they are packing up you might get a bag full for silly money
