It is true that the Charities sell on the rags to the "rag man", but i have been lucky and managed to pay my local charity shop, the same amount of money for the weight and get a bag of what ever it was I asked for them to keep back. Twice it was Jeans to make jeans bags. I paid £5 for one bag and £6.50 for the other. Between the two bags I had some 25 pairs of jeans. Many of which were perfectly good. Had been on sale, and didnt sell. So not only did I get some to make my bags out of, both the twins and I had a pair of jeans each that fitted us! Bonus.
I was going to ask them about saving some t.shirts for me, but forgot too. I had a peg loom for my birthday, and cutting up the t.shirts that i had was time consuming, but I didnt have very many of my own so maybe I still will ask.
Having said that I have an interview tomorrow for volunteering at another local charity shop. So maybe that will change things.
It will eat into my sewing time even more, but I want to give something back.
On the sewing side, I have been continuing to make my hexagon "flowers" in my black and white fabrics. Its a good thing to sit and sew while watching the TV, but its time consuming sewing by hand.

Oh well, as long as they fitted in lol, if you make another one you will know to add on seams. There is no way of knowing unless people put it on the actual pattern that it has been added, I suppose when they write it out they forget all about it but it is so important to get things the right size when finished. Whats your next project going to be?

I probably should be making a bigger peg bag next :rotfl:, but have just bought some fabric for an apron. Went to a sewing workshop for beginners at the weekend which has really given me the bug. Have booked on for another beginners course next month (about using patterns, quite apt!) but theres so little in the way of courses/ clubs near me. Have used online tutorials but I get so much more out of having some sit and go through things with me. I might become a regular on here asking daft questions :)

I am starting to give sewing lessons tomorrow.
I hope to expand on it in due course. Watch this space...mind you it may take me a very long time.

    Good luck Mooloo

I have had a day up in my sewing room. Sewed up the two cushions I was making for the nieces. Just waiting on some fancy trim to stitch on the outside and will need the pads for inside. Starting making three tiny dolls, someone asked me if I could make a small Mary Poppins so I have cut out three of them, can always get rid of the other two. Stitched around the pieces for the body, will sit and turn them through to the right side later. Also cut out and started sewing the bag for my friend out of the beach hut fabric I bought the other day. Still got quite a bit to do on it but its getting there.
  • Good Luck Mooloo. May it be the start of greater things :)

Rufus just had a peep on your blog. Love your bags. What a great idea for ties too.

Well the morning went OK, but as my machine I used had been up in the loft I had forgotten to check the tensions etc, so a bit of a stumbling block, but chatting things through, and doing some demonstrating of simple things seems to have fired her up, and she is looking forward to learning more. Meanwhile I will have to check out why the machine is not running as smoothly as it should, as it was serviced not so long ago. The motor sounds as if its slipping on the drive belt.
I am tired this afternoon, but as there is sewing around me, I will have a little potter on things as DGD has her helper today so I still have a couple of hours free. Yipee.
