  • Hello everyone

I'm looking for a rather simple (but nice) tutorial so that I can make a bag, preferably not a clutch. Has anyone got any recomendations? I've never made one before and have only used my sewing machine a handful of times!

I know a few, messenger bags ans totes are the easiest. Off on a hunt.

This is one of the easiest messenger bags, I have made it several times and my DD loves one I made in black canvas which i decorated with a felt batman logo which I stuck on with fabric glue. i do them without curving the flap, I just leave it square.

This one is a great tote bag which you can do with or without grommets depending on how fancy you want to go.

Here is a cute little bow bag

I have picked these tutorials as they should be pretty easy for a beginner and they have really good instructions and pictures. Good luck and post the results please.

Thank you. I like the messenger bag and the bow bag, I'll give those two a go soon. I found a 'wasp' bag tutorial which I also quite liked but it looked rather complicated.. I'm not sure I can post links yet otherwise I would.

I previously purchased some material from ebay but when it got here I was disappointed because it felt cheap and that has put me off buying online. I want to build up a little collection of fabrics, but where should I start?
  • Aw she did Pennib, the dog did too :) And as always love seeing your makes, what a sweet little mousey.
    Great links Gibson thanks :)
Went to Abakhan today and bought material to make GD a tv snuggle quilt.
But instead of wadding I've bought polar fleece to line the back with for a change. She loves dogs and I found some brilliant material with all different breeds on. Ended up costing a small fortune when it all added up and I'm edging it in a silky ribbon but I'm sure she'll love it to bits and hopefully she'll keep it for years to come. Don't know how long it will take me to make but I'll post a pic up when it's finished.

Twisted Candy Floss for practicing and to ensure you get used to lots of fabrics, you can buy a lucky dip bundle. Google lucky dip fabric bundle and see what comes up. You may get some really ugly fabrics as well as real gems but at about 75p a metre it can be lived with.

I really like this reversible bag - two complementary fabrics can be really effective.

Go to a hotels supplier on-line, you will usually have to buy a box and add on VAT and delivery

Thanks for your kind comments...love the mouse pennib!!

I have at last finished my stint at the shop for a week, though I suspect I'll be popping in later this week to talk to the boss face-to-face.
Managed to sell two more machines today as well as moved a few newly delivered machines up to the store room. Think I left the delivery note attached to one of the boxes, but that's easily sorted.

Looking forward to a long lie-in to 8:30 am tomorrow, still have loads to do though. My other job (IT work for craft centre) has been neglected for a bit, so need to get back to it and finish a job I started last week.

Right, need to get to bed...shattered now, night night all
