Oh dear pennib, you have had a rough time with your quilt!1 It still looks marvellous, though I know you will worry over every imperfection! I am the same, so pleased you persevered with it, congratulations :T:T
Well, here is the A4 landscape picture I have made for my brother, using some of my own hand-dyed fabrics. It's of the bay where we grew up, and where I will be in 21/2 weeks time :j.
It is mounted on one of those stretched canvases you can get lots of places...really finishes it off. I decided to paint the canvas white this morning, so the pictue is not attached yet. Just need to get the hooks onto the back, and the picture glued onto the front, then I can post it later this week. There are a few things I am not completely happy with, but pretty pleased with it. It could have done with more sea beyond Noss Head, but I needed to square up the picture and cut off just a bit too much...forgot I would lose a bit with the satin-stitch edging. Still, I will make a better one next time!!!
maman - how about a coaster with the gentleman's name, or initial in it, or a bookmark? I have done that before for some of the males in my family. Avstar's idea is good too, if you can find out what gadgets he has.
I plan on making a wall hanging for both my Sis and BIL, who are 50 this year, I have already done some preliminary sketches for each of them, it's just a case of finding the time and materials!!!:o
Oh I nearly forgot (how could I!!)...I got the job in the sewing machine shop!! :j
It's only one day a week initially, which is fine as I have two other part-time jobs. There is the possibility of doing some IT work for him, and once I have learned how too used these amazing machines, to teach other folk how to use them...there are so many possibilities! Just concentrating on the one day a week for now though, and we'll see how it goes after that.
Right, need to get back to the other pictures I'm making.
Have a good week everyone xx
You've done a good job with your picture Kiess, and your own hand dyed fabric. Was it from a photo or freehand sketch? Your brother will be so pleased with it.
I bet you will soon be taking the shop over once you got the hang of how to use the machines :rotfl: How exciting, bet you did a little skip when you heard!0 -

Hello Ailsb, long time no hear!! Glad to see you are keeping busy!:hello:
My original sketch was freehand (done inbetween invigilations on lined paper!) Later I referred to a couple of pictures to sort out the buildings...my bay is sqatter to be able to get Noss Head to Morven included...so the houses along the beach had to be tweaked a bit.
I am finding so many uses for my dyed fabrics, I'm going to have to do another batch sometime soon!!
As for the job, I still can't get over getting it! I only rang the owner about it last Wednesday, met him on Saturday, then got offered the job today!! I do hope it will work out...sometimes you worry if things seem too good to be true, so fingers crossed!
Didn't get much more sewing done today. I did clean my machine...found the broken tip of a needle in the bobbin case..that could have caused some trouble, so pleased I found it.
Right, need to get to bed, shattered, and my back hurts. Have a good week everyone.

Well done on the job. I am jealous!.:D
Did a little cutting out yesterday, of more bunting. Cut out on my slice machine, which is not so easy to do on fabric, but I cut out a picture of a baby hand print and a nappy pin, to put onto the flags of the bunting along with the letters of the childs name. Will have to iron them on, and get then sorted a bit later. But have split the end of my thumb so sewing is not so easy. Alas.
Maybe I will go and have a search down at the charity shop a bit later see if there is anything that i can use in my making. Just to get me out and about while DGD is being cared for.
I have still to make some curtains for DGD's room. The fabric that I bought was originally for the cottage, and so is rather shorter then I wanted. Still not sure if the extensions on the side with the canvas cover will work or not, so I havent taken the plunge. The original fabric is now around £45 a metre so I am scared of cutting it up the middle.! :eek:When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
mooloo - intrigued by all these cutting machines, are they worth it? Wonder which one is the best forcutting fabric. I almost got myself a big-shot last year, got some software instead...wish I had got the machine now!!
Only a quick visit, need to get back to the paid work.
Have a good trip to the CS, ouch to the split finger...have you tried aloe vera gel? It stings a bit, but works a treat!

I wouldnt really recommend the Making Memories Slice for Fabric, its a bit hit and miss. But my Mum has one for her card making and loves it. She has more programmes for her then I do for mine. But mostly I just cut out lettering for the bunting. I havent really tried to do much else.
As long as the fabric is thinish cottons and its ironed onto bondaweb, then using the cutting mat that comes with it, or a bigger one that I now have. It works well enough for me.
I think those Sizzix bigshots look like they are better They will cut leather I think. Which would have been more beneficial. But as my machine was a present from my Dad I am not complaining.
they are all very expensive and you would really need to use them alot to get your money back I think.
DGD has just drowned the kitchen so I have to go and mop up!When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Thanks mooloo, hope you have got the floods under control!! At least the floor will get a good wash

I am just too soft. I let her play with water, so I have to deal with the consequences! Yep the floor is now cleaned again!. Which is lucky as earlier she had walked mud in so I was going to have to clean it anyway.!
Just waiting for the washing machine to finish, see if I can get that out, and then the towels from mopping up will go in.
I still havent got the ironing sorted. Need to iron those flags! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hi everyone, I managed to get the table cloths done today. They came out nice and I have quite a bit of nice fabric left over to make some seat cushions when I can get some foam to put in them. I was going to get some photos done of them on the tables but it started to rain so it will have to wait until the weather gets better again.0

Congratulations on your fab job Keiss. It'll be great to get paid for playing with the machines!
Your picture looks fantastic by the way.
Pennib, your quilt is lovely.0
