Keiss - such beautiful makes! How many hours a day do you spend sewing?

I haven't made anything this week. I look after my grandson between two and four days a week (dependant on sil's shifts) so time is precious. I'm sure you'll feel the difference, Mooloo!!

I fear that I will feel the difference in my health as well!! alas the aches and pains of lifting spring to mind. !
Made some more baby booties while watching TV. becoming a bit addictive!

Keiss, what gorgeous things you've made.

I must admit, I hadn't done much sewing for a while, but last week I decided to actually sit down and get sewing!! I cut the fabric for the pin cushion and crazy nine-patch (both from Quilting in no time book) out on the Saturday night, and had made both by mid afternoon on the Sunday! It did involve lots of running up and downstairs as my craft room is upstairs and the iron is downstairs!! I soo need to get a small ironing board up here! Mind you, it is slowly getting me fit! :rotfl:

I am trying to have a few days a week where I can have a few good hours sewing. I have stopped sewing long into the night, so get to bed before midnight, and get up at a sensible time and get sewing by 9:30-10am. The best way to sew a lot, is to avoid switching on the computer, I get too distracted. and lose many an hour!! :o

Shame my main paid job is IT, but I restrict that to Tuesdays mainly, so tomorrow I can't see me getting much, if any, sewing done, even though I am itching to do some!! I had my quilting group today and we started on some fabric postcards, sort of in the manner of my Valentine card. I did more cutting and bonding today, but learned lots of new things and got some valuable advice re my cushion cover.

Thank you, I enjoyed making them. :)

Mooloo, love the bootees. I am lucky in that I only have one son at home (college) and no grandchildren to distract me (yet!). I work part-time at a local college, as well as from home, so I can organise my time as I like. I am finding it is easier to treat my sewing as a job (which it sort of is, if I sell my makes), and allocate certain times or full days to it...and many evenings too, unless I come on here that is :rotfl:.

Ofcourse, other things suffer, my ironing pile grows to mountainous proportions, though pretty good atm...honest! Not much house-work gets done (well, not regularly :o). I am not allowed to use the hoover because of my back, so DH or DS2 does that...tee hee!! I am having to think about sorting out my seeds, so the garden could well take over some of my time...computng time that is!! :)

Right, need to get off to bed soon. Will pop on later in the week to see how you all are.

    Night, night x

That's quite difficult for me as well!!! I've had two lots of spinal surgery over the last couple of years and I certainly feel the effects of the lifting. It's just too hard to ignore the two little arms in the air!!!!!

This arthritis lark is no joke!!!!!! It's in my fingers but that's not too painful at the moment so I can still knit and sew. For that I'm thankful.

When my mothers arthritis kicked in she stopped sewing and started doing her Artwork on the computer. But she seems to have stabilised over the years and makes beautiful cards instead now. Her card work is constant, and she creates some really intricate work.

I should try and treat my sewing as if it was a job, but life still seems to be in the way. Today DGD is off Nursery again due to a bad cough. So sewing time is lost once more.

I too would like to treat my sewing as a job but its no good doing that if I am not selling any of it lol. I had one sale this month and that was something I made last year while OH was in China, it was a table runner for his friends GF, she asked me to make it then she didnt send the money, been waiting all that time, thought I would put it on my shop instead but the money turned up in an envelope last Monday. Other than that, I sold two things beginning of Jan and that's it.

Its rather slow this year, the world is all on the Saving mode!. Or the make do and mend ilk like the rest of us. Perhaps we just need to get as many people we know to sing our praises! (bribe them???) Its difficult to get established, when there is no physical presence, and no initial sales. But dont give up hope. If you have the equipment, fabrics etc, just enjoy making, but dont buy anything you dont need. Then if it sells its a bonus, if not you have plenty to use as gifts, or to donate to a charity or something.
    Nothing ventured nothing gained though.
I have only sold one small purse this year.

Mmm, I have only sold one scarf since Christmas, yes things are slow. :(

I have decided to make things I want to and learn new techniques along the way. If I end up selling things, then all well and good, the long term aim is to teach other people to make things...that is where the money is!! :)

This is why I have made so much this past week...it's such a release not to be making things you think you will sell and make a decent profit...which won't happen if they don't sell. :o
I have a run of birthdays in the next couple of months, so I am busy making planning to make things for everyone...getting quite excited. I also have a few projects lined up for the house here, so looking forward to getting some of them underway.

I agree Mooloo, enjoying making things and giving as presents, and wearing/using your own makes is a good way of advertising, without pushing yourself out there.

At the moment, my IT work is bringing in more regular money than I was earning before I was made redundant last year, but I need to bring in a bit more as we will have two boys @ Uni come September...:eek:

So Rufus have fun making things, and hopefully some of them will sell soon. Right, back to the IT work, having a break for 30 mins, but need to get back to it now.

Well I have one hour now left before DGD comes back from Molly's. So I am going to go up to my work room and I am going to bring down one of my sewing machines so I can do some work here in the front room when DGD is about. I would like to make some accessories for the bedroom that she is going to be having (when the work room is swapped). I am doing a cupcake theme for her, and so I have bought some tea towels from Wilkinsons to change into some cushions for her, and possibly the p.e. style drawstirng bags, that I want to hang her smaller toys in, for around the room.
But it will mean that the sewingroom will be about 2/3rds smaller when we swap over! Oh well, family must have decent rooms before I have my sewing room!. Time to go or I will run out of it!.
