Thank you sweetheart - I knew at the time I shouldnt let it get to me but I just couldnt help it - it had taken all of the enjoyment out of it - and have hardly done anything since and the throw is just there waiting to be finished - am doing my papercrafting at the mo - getting back into crafting after having packed it all away while we did the extension - dust and grit and dirt - yikes - anyway things are getting back to normal now and I have started crafting by doing my cards again

Not a problem. I hate it when people get discouraged. Critics can sometimes not realise that they hurt people. Usually they are not much better themselves anyway. :rotfl:
I hope the MIL gets on OK with the sewing and that there is another generation who learns to sew.
I really would love to be out there teaching it, but although I have mentioned it, I moved home so never did set it up. Perhaps I can still do it. I shall have to put investigating on my list of things to do.:o
I went into the charity shop today. FATAL!! I bought a pair of brown curtains with applique houses/teddies and something else, cant remember now. And a cream lace waistcoat. But the most expensive spend was 10 cushions, at £1.50 each. Mad, but when I removed the watersilk/cream covers to washthem, the cushions were in another cover, a green and white, shamerock style fabric, so they came off to go in the wash, and low and behold beneath them on most of them were another set of covers, in various shades of pinks, faded and a bit stained. But this will give me extra ZIPS. So from 10 cushions I got 29 covers!!When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Its rather slow this year, the world is all on the Saving mode!. Or the make do and mend ilk like the rest of us. Perhaps we just need to get as many people we know to sing our praises! (bribe them???) Its difficult to get established, when there is no physical presence, and no initial sales. But dont give up hope. If you have the equipment, fabrics etc, just enjoy making, but dont buy anything you dont need. Then if it sells its a bonus, if not you have plenty to use as gifts, or to donate to a charity or something.
Nothing ventured nothing gained though.

I am wondering if anyone can help me at all. I am a constant lurker but after posting about not knowing how to post my pics I never got a reply so haven't been posting what I have made.
Today I have made a pe bag following this tutorial

I bought cord to put through to make the straps but for some reason it doesn't pull tight at all and I don't know what I am doing wrong.
Has anyone else had this problem at all. I have looped it through the tabs and hems as it states however it doesn't pull scrunched like in the final picture.

The way I put photos on here is that I have an account with Photobucket. I upload the photos to there and resize them so they are medium size, then when you have saved it you get a list of four things at the side which look like code. If you click on the one that says direct link it should come up and say copied, then come back to here and click on the little icon at the top that looks a bit like an envelope with a stamp on and mountains on it. Paste the code into there and that should be it.
You can also click on the code that says img code and then paste it directly into the reply box.
As for the cord, I think what you need to take one piece of cord and feed it through one side of the bag top and then back through the other side, then put a toggle on and then tie it to the bottom. Then take the other piece of cord and feed it through the same places but starting at the opposite side, when it has gone right through both sides add the toggle and then tie it to the bottom of that side. It should then pull in and out when you draw it.0 -
I am pleased with myself. I have had another day sewing and finished off the two cushion covers that I started last year. So glad they are out of the way now. I didn't have time to start on the bag for my sister so that will be my next project.0

Well done Rufus on getting some sewing done :T. It's a great feeling to finish some projects you've been meaning to do/finish for ages. No sewing for me today yet, but I have the evening ahead, so you never know!
Wow, Mooloo, what a lot of covers...and zips. fantastic!! I haven't dared go into a charity shop for a while, need to use up what I already have atm
Mind you, I did go into my local haberdashers to get machine needles (had run out of 80s!!) and a thread to match the material I plan on making placemats and a table runner with....but that's all...amn't I good!!
Made another morsbag yesterday, this time with a little bag to store it in. Also made a cover for the iP*d touch that DS2 is getting for his birthday tomorrow. Can't believe my baby is 19!!
Will post piccies next week once the recipients have had their pressies.

I have made quite a few of these. (on my homepage) You need two pieces of cord. Each piece goes through both channels and ends up on the side that it started on. you need quite a bit of cord, I think about 1 1/2 m for each side! (although my bags were bigger than her measurements) I skipped the toggles. I also sewed little squares onto the ends of the cord as it frayed quite a bit & I couldnt get the ends to stay knotted. The cord was probably the most expensive part of the bag (and I bought cheaply from fabricland)

What Rufus dog said about the cord, or you need toggles. Having a look through their instructions they gather the top of the bag by using the toggles & compressing the bag top on to less cord (not by just pulling the cord) but its not very well explained.

Thank you everyone so much for your help. I could kick myself because i had 3 metres of cord then cut it and not in half!!! in my effort to sort it. I shall try for the toggles of not will try to get some more cord.
I really enjoyed making it so it would be a shame not to be able to do one again.
I shall try the photobucket way and see if I can get some photos up here.
