  • I haven't been on this thread for ages and you have all been very busy and made some lovely things. I think I have that pattern Bobbykins. I think I bought it because my daughter likes the strapless version. I will have to alter it as well because my daughter is only 5 foot and quite slim but with D cup boobs.

All the talk of needles ending up where they shouldn't has reminded me of when I worked in a factory and one rather large lady manged to get a needle in a rather prominent part of her female anatomy. We had industrial machines and she was leaning over to talk to someone and accidentally trod on the treadle. I think it made an interesting entry in the accident book "needle in left breast." I can imagine later on people reading it and their minds boggling about how she managed to do it. She saw the funny side of it and we had a good laugh about it.

Not sure the girl who managed to get her finger stuck under the machine whilst changing the bobbin was amused though. The mechanics had to dismantle the machine to get her out. She wasn't actually badly hurt luckily.

It has made me very careful, especially when I am in the house alone. There was a saying in the places I worked in that you weren't a machinist until you had put a needle in your finger. I am glad to say I am not a "machinist" and have no intention of ever becoming one if I can help it.

    Safe sewing everyone.
  • Bobbykins that dress is lovely :)

Could anyone send me a pinterest invite please? I've applied but apparently the waiting list is forever! Starting on my friends little boys memory blanket... I've had to give up on my sewing machine and now have a very basic one stitch one instead.

Managed to sew a couple of baby booties over the weekend, beginning of the week, but not managed any sewing the last couple of days.
I remember buying the pattern for the Amelia bag way back when Haart but to be honest I havent ever got around to making it! Oh dear.
My laptop is crammed with PDF's to do!, and blogs to check, and website links etc. And I am spending hours on here looking and not sewing! Well next week is usually the mantra!

Love all the makes I really get all enthusiastic again when I catch up, and will no doubt be downloading something else today!
I am behind on following the blogs and Facebook. Sorry. I am rather scatterbrained, and live a rather hectic life, so its not easy to keep up with it all. Even this thread is difficult to keep up with at times.!
Have any of you been getting the Craftseller mag? The booties I have been making are from the latest copy, but I am really not sure about thier idea of costings? £10 for a pair of baby booties/?? I doubt anyone I know would pay more then about £3.50 if I was lucky. I could easily churn out thier makes each week, and would be raking it in if I sold what they suggest. What am I doing wrong?

Mooloo, I suppose its getting the right customers and being in the right place at the right time. My SIL asked if I wanted a stall at a charity fair next month, but its just outside the main town in a hall and its a 9am start. I really cant see anyone wanting to buy my cushions or quilts at that kind of do. If we had not had the bad weather I might have tried to make up some small bits and pieces to take but its been too cold to sew up stairs so I wouldn't be able to get any stock done. I had a good chance before Christmas when the woman who runs the nice fabric shop in Rochester emailed everyone and asked if anyone wanted a stall in her shop (it would have been in the basement) I emailed back to ask how much the stalls were and never heard back. I am thinking her emails probably went to her spam folder and she didnt see them. I suppose I should have rung up but I was a bit miffed at first thinking she just couldnt be bothered to answer the email. It might have been a good place for a stall as there was a big thing going on that weekend and plenty of visitors and tourists about. If she does it again I will make sure I ring her instead of emailing and see what prices she is charging for the table.
  • Mooloo you must be my long lost twin as l am exactly like you :j

I have all these ideas but by the time l read my emails, facebook etc i can't be bothered to do anything. you are looking at someone who bought a wedding sampler a year before the wedding and had only done the border by the time the divorce went through:o Honestly it did happen. i also decided to make a personalized wedding sampler for my son and his wife (bought loads of cotton, material and even a picture border for it) - well they have been married 4 1/2 years and have a a 3 year old :o:o:o Need l mention the planned birth sampler for my grandchildren - one is 3 and one is 4

Maybe it's because we are both Moo's or could be because we are both from Northamptonshire :rotfl:

eddi :DI have at least 2 deep drawers full (stuffed) of denim, I have cut up so many pairs of jeans I got in the sales of charity shops of ones I have out grown :o.
I started a quilt with some of the squares and my Aunt makes beautiful bags with her old jeans.
I might make some little denim boxes with some too and use up some of my lace with it too :D.

Ooh so many good ideas :D I save all sorts of boxes and tubs from things. I'm such a hoarder but I constantly look at things and think hmm I could make something out of that...I'll hang onto it. Drives the OH mad lol. My current favourites are the little tubs my Herbal E$$ences intense hair conditioner comes in. Once you whip the plastic labels off they're lovely little sturdy coloured pots. I've got a bag full of them  I suppose I could cover them in some nice rich material and make trinket boxes or use them to put homemade bath bombs in for gifts. That's just come to me - how exciting lol

That curtain material you've got is fantastic.
  • I hope that this is the URL for my Daughters Earflap hat. If it does not work then I have no idea how to show an imag on here.

Just thought I'd pop in to show a little bit of progress on my first patchwork blanket, I've got all the squares cut out and laid in place, so just need to start the hard bit of sewing them all by hand now

This is the rough layout, hopefully it will look neater when it's done!

Oh dear! what a pair we are! I do get some things done, but I do forget about things as well. My memory is awful, and I also dont follow up on things that are maybe's and turn them into definates!.

Rufusdog, I think I will just have to keep making things and hanging on to them until I am feeling up to doing something that will be worth doing, like a stall.
But at the moment, I enjoy sewing when I can, so I will just carry on.
