  • I'd just like to add that I have 90% finished my first bird hanging for a friends baby mobile. I'm soooooo please, it all went right with no problems I couldn't fix and I stayed calm. Once I have finished her I will post a pic somehow, did I mention I'm really pleased? lol. I think I am going to be able to salvage a previous bird attempt too so that'll be 2 done. I have a pattern for a fish and a butterfly too so I might actually be finished before the baby is born!
  • Been only able to read about all these lovely things everyone has made - my sign in would not work. Now got it to work again. So can I just say that I am fascinated by all the projects that everyone has or is achieving on here. Well done. Ny daughter is going crocheting mad at present. She has made one of those hats that begins with a magic start (no hole) and goes round and round and then has some ear mufflers and tassels on it. Has done it in a multi mix red. She is only 16, but loves to craft stuff. She wants to try and make her prom dress out of comics and clear stick back plastic stuff, now that should be interesting. And we'd be using a vintage wrap dress - kind of like a cleaners tabbard but it buttons at front and back and keeps you private as it is a dress. Obviously there is some leeway for poshing it up. Wish us luck on that.

I had good intentions of doing some more sewing today but the cold weather has beaten me. Our storage heater in the dining room didnt come on this morning so we have had to take the portable heater from my craft room to use down stairs until we can get another one to replace it (OH will pick one up tomorrow but I wont get the benefit of it until the weekend as he is out all day). I want to get on with the backs to my cushions I started, plus I have lots of tops to make. The fabric I have for the tops is all a bit see through and I looked about to buy some lining kind of fabric for them but then thought I would just buy myself a white camisole vest and wear that underneath and it will do for all of them.

formaldehyde; I'm also doing something with birds. The bird's have come out right so here's hoping the rest of it does! Looking forward to seeing your photos.

Horseunderwater; Wow, that sounds very imaginitive. Does she do designing at school/college? It sounds brilliant and only 16. I hope it all comes together without to much difficulty. And we must have a photo of it:j

Rufus; A white cami sounds just the ticket for all the tops, you can pick them up quite cheaply. Don't blame you for not sitting in a cold room.

She is doing textiles for GCSE and this is exam project year. Has designed a quilt with some sculpted flowers on it as her project. From what I've seen of it, it wil be fab. But other than that she just looks at things on etsy and folksy and searches car boots for wools etc. And it is more of a hobby at the moment. She wants to go to uni/college and do languages if she can. But at least she has options. If we get the thing to work (prom dress) we will post a picture in due course. Think we need to see how stiff the plastic will be with the comics on it first.

Wow, great to see a young up and coming designer! Would love to see photos when they are finished!

Spent yesterday in the kitchen, baking. This was a great way to keep warm. Don't blame you about avoiding the cold room rufus. I have decamped my laptop to my crafting room...warmer and easier/cheaper to heat up cf the conservatory...it's 5 degrees C in there atm:eek::eek:

Inbetween all the baking morning and evening yesterday, I did some home dyeing! I used two colours: turquoise and yellow, dyeing a series of fabric squares with a range of mixtures of the two colours. Have to wait until this afternoon before I can rinse them out and see how it has all worked...can't wait!!

Right, need to get a move on and finish my paper-work and then make a cover for my new sewing machine. I am taking it to a sewing workshop tomorrow, so need to protect it. I will be learning how to do machine quilting tomorrow and should come home with a new bag, having used lots of different kinds of free-quilting...really looking forward to it!

Will post piccies of the dyed fabric and the bag come Sunday.

Have a good weekend everyone. xx

Lucky you Keiss, I would love to learn how to do machine quilting xx
  • I've finally found the right walking foot for my machine and also got an invisible zipper foot, but goodness, the walking foot was expensive!! and...I also found a twin ballpoint needle for my stretch jersey so, once they all arrive, I'll get on with attempting my dress. Until then I'll carry on reading "Fit for Real People" so hopefully I'll have a better idea of how to fit it properly although, with stretch jersey, I don't think I have to be too precise...do I?

Good luck with the dress Anny, I asked my OH to buy me my walking foot for my birthday last year. He is always going on about how much it cost and how he never sees me using it lol. I DO use it but not all the time, cant get him to understand that one lol.

I had my wool come today for my wet felting. I need to get the book down and have a read of what else I need to get. I think it might be some bubble wrap.
  • Rufusdog, if you need bubble wrap don't forget to ask at the fruit department at supermarkets. It's often under grapes and apples and they'll give it to you free if you ask.
