Crikey Almond, what a shock you must have had! Glad you are OK.

I wear glasses and have a machine where I can drop the feed dogs, so hopefully I'll avoid this problem.

I too sewed through my middle finger...I was 16 and making a school , so it was stiff material. I was also watching South Pacific with my mum, so too many distractions!! The needle went all the way through ! Just as well mum was there to help me pull it back out!!!

Love your hearts mooloo, and the heart block hart...think I might have to have a go at making one...yours is lovely!!

Right, need to get more work done :o

hi there, can anyone tell me a good place to buy ready-made fabric flowers to sew onto hairbands? I have two girls as well as nieces and LOVE the flowery headbands & fancy having a go at making them myself! They look simple enough!

I wouldnt be great at making the flowers - so would like to be able to buy the ones that are ready to sew on... x

I'm not sure what sort of flowers you prefer - there are a few flower making tutorials on here - ruffled, rolled, ribbonned etc http://jamiebrock.hubpages.com/hub/Make-Fabric-Flower-Hair-Accessories-Easy-Tutorial

most of them are quite easy - you'd probably be surprised at how you do ;)

the organza ones look so much more expensive than they work out to be & you can layer them with netting or I've used in the past, old coat lining and stitched buttons in the centre rather than beads - do be careful & singe the edges of the circle cutouts rather than burn them - not that I've done anything like that of course ;)
  • Hi

Not sure if this is the right place to post but thought I'd give it a try... I am looking for a dressmaker in London who would be able to make 3 bridesmaids dresses. If I google it I just get a load of over-priced boutique places. What I'm looking for is more someone who does it in their home or as a small business. Can anyone help?

    Thanks so much

  • Never knew sewing machines were so dangerous, needle to the eye, needle through the finger; will certainly be extra careful in future.
Nice hearts Mooloo, cute ribbon; lovely cushions Rufus; the heart block is really effective Hart, lovely material.
Have been spurred on to do some more of my patchwork cushion cover this evening, it's not going as bad as I thought so we'll see.
  • Try looking under dressmakers rather than bridal or seamstress?
    Might get better results.

You could try www.thesewingforum.co.uk there are people over there that specialise in that type of thing. They would at least be able to give you an idea of the going rate and also an idea of the costs and time involved so you can see why the going rate is what it is.

hi i am fine i know it sounded a bit over the top but i did'nt have head near machine just watched it fly towards me, was a bit of a shock but just wanted to warn anybody using these plates to watch what they are doing and not go to fast.
I hope that you didnt think I was blaming you for having your head so close, I was only saying that my head is a bit further back due to my problems so i hope that it will not happen to me!.
I do have to sit a bit too far away from the machine and at times its rather awkward. Especially as my left arm doesnt work properly!.
Anyway, I pray that you will be OK, and we all do learn from each other.
I was at a boardingschool as a child, and a friend, I remember her name so well, but better not say it. She was sewing in the classroom beside me, and she managed to sew through her finger. I was about 11 I think, and the teacher who was a nun, got so befuddled and destressed, that I had to be calm and unscrew the needle from the machine and free her finger. (And cut the cotton), and she had to go to hospital to have the needle removed. It was not good at all. But luckily it didnt put me off of sewing. But I have never forgotten it. I keep my fingers well away! It would scare me to death to do it!.

Thanks for the comments on the hearts. I have made 12 of them similar today. My arm is now shouting at me!. I hope that i may find an interest in them, for the valentines, or for some Shabby chic etc ideas. Who knows.
Love to see a picture of the final dress bobbykins.

Cant help on the sewing for London. Got to think of my own families bridesmaids dresses. Looks like I will be making them, but apart from my arm thats not a problem. Just time limited by the arm.
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.
