Oh thanks for that Georgia I didnt know that. Will ask around xx
  • I never buy bubble wrap unless I really have to. The "every little helps" supermarket has loads of it and I just take it most of the time, when the boxes are nearly empty, even if I don't need any right there and then, if I see it I take it and save it at home for the next ebay sale or recently to wrap a computer screen to store in the loft. Some of the independant fruit and veg sellers (on markets etc) have brown paper under their fruit and veg, or it sometimes comes in Amazon packaging which I use for pattern making. You can tape it together to make bigger pieces.

hi there, can anyone tell me a good place to buy ready-made fabric flowers to sew onto hairbands? I have two girls as well as nieces and LOVE the flowery headbands & fancy having a go at making them myself! They look simple enough!

I wouldnt be great at making the flowers - so would like to be able to buy the ones that are ready to sew on... x

Lucky you Keiss, I would love to learn how to do machine quilting xx
I had a lovely day, we had 26 7.5 inch squares to practice on. I will post piccies of some of the best once I find the camera!! Looking at the ones I have already done, I can see the improvement after my first one. It was a shattering session though. I will be making a bag once I have done enough.

It's mostly a case of having the confidence to just get started. Our teacher recommended this book. Might have to investigate it!!

Right, enough playing on the computer, I need to get more sewing done!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone x

Thanks for that link Keiss, you can read the whole book just about on Amazon preview. It was very interesting. I really need to have a go at this but its impossible at the moment with no heating upstairs. I will do what you learned and do some small squares first. Can always make them into pot holders or something after. May be everyone will get one for Christmas this year lol.

Been away for the weekend so no sewing since Thursday. hopefully I will do some tomorrow now.
Spent the morning re-arranging my front room. So thats my energy for the day gone.
Hopefully I will start to sew some more hearts etc as soon as DGD has gone to school. Red Gingham and some broderie anglaise. All left overs of course!

The gingham and lace hearts sound lovely Mooloo. I actually got some sewing done this afternoon, finished off the three cushions I was making, pics on my blog. I found the bag I made for my sister too that went missing for weeks so I finished that off as well today.

I have taken a picture of them, will put it on my homepage later on, when I have DGD out of the bath etc. (If I am not too tired).
The ribbon they are sewn on is a Valentines one, with Red writing on a cream ribbon. Bit late for selling, but never mind. I have this terrible delay on getting things done! Perhaps one day I will be sewing in advance enough to make any money at it!
Glad you found your sisters bag. I am also bad at putting things and loosing them, then when I am searching for somethingelse they turn up. Such is life. I am no organiser! Alas.

Yes, I had a good read too Rufus!! The squares I am using are 7.5" square, with a 3/4 seam allowance. The squares are arranged in pairs, with a 6" square of batting inbetween, and then pinned together. The top square of each pair is marked with a 6" square in the middle (used a cardboard template), before pinning. You do the stitching inside this 6"square...can be a bit fiddly at the corners, but doable...eventually. :o It's amazing how quickly you improve..though then the stitching can get worse again just when you think you have cracked it :rotfl:

Will root out my camera tomorrow and take some piccies to show what I mean...still have a few more to do before sewing them together to make a bag.

Hope you can get your heationg sorted soon...I have fully decamped to my son's room, only venturing into the conservatory to cut lager pieces of material.

Love the idea of your hearts Mooloo...I had thoughts of making some to sell too...perhaps if I make some now, I will have them ready for next year! :rotfl:

Need to get to bed soon...sooo tired, lots to do tomorrow...hopefully some sewing too!

Have a stitchy week everyone xx
