How are the chairs going rufusdog? I finally finished the snowflake costumes and handed them in to the nursery today. One job finally done.
I still have the mary costume to make as the first one I started was far too big and bulky. So I have cut out another one, using an angel pattern from my stash I found. I shall make a headdress just like a teatowel type thing, and some grips I think. Have plenty of white fabric I can use thats drapey and I was given the blue fabric a few weeks ago. So pretty cheap!.

  • not much sewing for me this week! Been busy preparing for TWO job interviews which were both today. I have just been told that I didn't get the first job and I am now waiting for the 2nd phone call.

I am more nervous now than during the interviews!!!!!!!!!!

Trying to keep myself occupied but it is difficult - fingers crossed X

can i join please i am about to get a straight sewing machine but have an old one Jones but i cant get it to sew more than 2 inches without getting stuck atm not even sure if its threaded right!

Threading is quite likely the problem.

I could be you have the bobbin the wrong way inside the bobbin case. The bobbin cotton has to turn clockwise then the thread clips into the side and pulls back onto it's self into the slot.

Unthread the needle cotton. Loosen the tension disc's wipe a piece of fabric between them to make sure there is no lint/fluff there. Set the tension back to Auto or if manual 4/5. Make sure the presser foot is raised and rethread.
Make sure the needle is in correctly and is threaded correctly. (Some are threaded right to left others front to back.)

Check the needle isn't bent or blunt.

Try this if it still doesn't work come back and we will try something else.

  • This might not be the right place to post but I'm looking for a nice sewing basket to get my sister in law as a Christmas present as she's just got into sewing and wondered if any of you lovely people could point me in the right direction? I've got upto about £25 to spend. She likes Cath Kidston stuff but I can't find anything in my price range. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Marks and Spencers have a Kirsty Allsop one? think its also in the 3 for 2 gifts as well. (or it was a few days ago.).
If you go through Quidco Cath Kidston do some money back on orders, takes a little while but they do pay up. again you will need to research as I havent looked in a little while. Trying to make all my presents. Made my daughter her sewing basket by covering a picnic style basket, and padding the lid etc. Cost- £2 ish in the charity shop, and then fabrics used were actually free too as given to me in a stash earlier last month!.:D

    Hi Mooloo

I have two chairs covered, they just need the braid around the edges put on. One is stripped, needs rubbing down and staining etc, two more have been semi stripped (YD is doing some of it for me) and the other one hasnt been started yet. They are looking nice though so far. My hands and arms ache like mad though with all the staple pulling and using the staple gun.
