I followed a PDF file, and Cut it out, then quilted it at 2" intervals. I sewed it through all 4 layers. But I think that Its sturdy enough. I am not much of a quilter, and had to change my needle for a no 16.
It didnt take me that long, didnt actually time myself but probably not more than about an hour and a half once I found the Pdf on the net and printed it off. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Could you use the christmas stuff to make place mats, or napkin rings, things like that for the day.? If the pieces are very small, could you make christmas tags with them, stitching them to plain fabric that can be printed on, or written on in fabric paints perhaps.
I manage to print on fabric, in my printer (Normal one), by sticking fabric to a piece of thincard, about 1/2" down the card, with double sided stickytape, and print out pictures or what ever I want on the fabric!:T
Great ideas, thanks Mooloo! I have 2 quite good sized Xmas stuff and think i've got enough to do some placemats! Will be defo having a go at them over the next week. Thanks everyone. The remnant bags in DM are definately worth looking at, for £2.99 I got some good sizes and nice designs :-)0 -
Mooloo, they're lovely things you've made for your Dad.
Hmo, your daughter has done a great job with the mat.0 -

Mooloo that fabric is lovely, what fab presents!
They go to France for 3 months a year at least, and as the fabric was french, with french ouefs etc written on it I thought that it was suitable. It was a curtain, so recycled it. (Bought it on ebay). But at least then Dad knows that its a personal gift completely.
I made a bag out of two embroidered napkins last night, for my Mum. She could use it as a lingerie or shoe bag. May make another one for her to use as another shoe bag if I have time. I have the same napkins, but not sure I have the same ribbon though.
I will take a picture later, as its time for the school run.
Where does the time go.?
p.s. Dad said that my new sewing machine has arrived yesterday afternoon. So I cannot wait to get my grubby mits on it!!:rotfl::TWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

I have listed one on my shop and I am putting the other one away for my Sister for Xmas next year. I have some more fabric I bought to make one for tmy other sister and there will be enough for two of them so when done I can put one of them in my shop too.
So pleased that I have inspired you.
I am really beginning to think of making more gifts now, but have to stop to do another bunting for Aoife. Birthday party for DGD this weekend. She is in demand!.When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hello everyone, i am lapsed sewer and need help.
Tried to hem sleeves of a micro fleece top and found machine missing stitches and the needle catching on the fibres, how can I get a good result? also tried zig zag but this proved worse result. should I just hand stitch , I have 3 tops to hem.
Secondly, I have fab soft light velvet retail at £70 m which was my mega bargain for £12 in a factory sale, and i cant decide what to make. I f I make a bed throw, what can i use to back it with and fill it with? I saw a lightly quilted on in a shop backed with a silky fabric and held tog with tiny stitches set at intervals.
I dont have many shops at my disposal, perhaps dunelm? I have about 2.3 m.0 -
Have you tried to change the needle? You may need a ballpoint one, as if you were sewing jersey type fabric. Then possibly you may need it on a stretch stitch. But I would definitely try a new needle and then rethread it. (That often works for me) before trying to change the tensions and such like.
Re the fabric throw I am not the one to advise there, but someone will be along soon.
Hope that works for you. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hi everyone
Longtime lurker, thanks for all the inspiration you provide to a novice sewer such as myself!!
Just thought I'd mention that Jackie's Fabrics have got a load of fabric in the 'Bargain basement' section at the mo. Including some xmas sets for under 2 quid which I purchased a few weeks ago (at full price ggrrrr) which are really lovely - I've made some bunting and a rag wreath (inspired by this thread!!!) with them.
I've just bought some of the paisley fabrics for my pipe dream patchwork quilt...
