Morning all
I seem to have lost my mojo where sewing is concerned since I did my sofa. I just cant get motivated to go up and do anything. I have two bits of the lovely chinese fabric left over which I want to make myself something out of but cant think of what to make out of it.
I have some bags half done and some others cut out ready to sew up but I cant be bothered to do them. I am a bit disappointed with my Folksy shop at the moment, I was really hoping things would pick up nearer Christmas but I havent had any sales at all in November, wondering whether I am just not making the right things to sell on there. They have been mucking about with the site lately updating it and giving it all a make over and a lot of people on their forum are moaning about them doing it right on Christmas but I am not that sure that is why I am not selling anything. I am wondering whether to try putting some of it on Etsy instead or whether to just give up.0 -

I think I got a bit fed up of the same sewing, thats why I stopped and did the wreath. Only sewing was the tube over the hanger top, and to add the bells. But it got my creative juices flowing again... Torn up 2cm x about 10cm pieces of rag, remenants, just tied around a hanger. So simple but effective and can be made in an evening in front of the TV.
I have lots of wooden hangers, about 9 I think that i picked up in a charity shop earlier this year. Kept meaning to make padded hangers and never did. Perhaps the extended one with pockets may be a good idea to use up some of my Cath Kidston stuff.
Rugusdog, you will generate sales at some stage, I think that its a hard thing to keep up. But read somewhere that you need to be adding new things, regularly. So that your shop is at the front of the searches. (Says me who hasnt sold anything there.) My sales have all been word of mouth or on Ebay.! Every person who creates gets stuck in a rut every now and then.:o:DWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Thanks Mooloo, I just went right through my shop and put the prices down a little bit, see if that might work, may be I was asking a bit too much. I also found some items that had been delisted as they had been on longer than 6 months so I relisted all them again. I could do with getting the shop some more promotion but not sure what to do, I have it on my blog already and I have a Facebook page although the app that used to put the actual shop on Facebook doesnt work anymore.0

Wow this is a long thread
I just came on as I'm feeling very pleased with myself for pulling out my sewing machine after 3 years (hardly used then too) and making a basic cape for each of my sons to be super heroes!!

Morning all. I would like some ideas for some sewing projects as i'm gonna be out of action with a dislocated knee so just some small projects to do with old clothes.
First on my list is some comfy crutch handle covers as i've got blisters forming! Oh dear."When I'm rolling in the benjamin's, I will throw you and your dog a bone, good night."0 -

Welcome! Sewing becomes a drug a bit!. Pleased that you have the superheros.
I joined a craftsy site, and paid for a tutorial on making childrens costumes. Not all sewing though. Just how to make princess and princes out of our little horrors. It was about $9.99 - american stuff, but as its on line thats fine.
Rufusdog, I am sure you were not over priced. Infact probably the other way around. If you do not value your work well enough, then the customer buying doesnt. I have read that many a time.
Have lots of tips from Etsy, which must be the same as Folksy really. I have a little book about Craftselling etc came with the last episode of Craftseller Magazine. Can dig it out and see what they say.
Got to get DGD ready for a birthday party this morning. Thats the one that I made the bunting for.
Have a good day all, hope the mojo returns xx:rotfl:When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

I watched the show later on in the day so saw the machine - nothing wrong with a man sewing - he seemed to know what he was doing. In my last machining job - there was a bloke - really fast and good machinist. When I started as a machinist - MANY years ago - no men doing the sewing only the laying out/cutting of fabric. The machine looks good - hope you are happy with it. I know I am spoilt having an industrial machine - seems to handle any job I throw at it.
Viscount are part of Silver. Or should I say Viscount became Silver Viscount, then Silver Reed is also part of the same company. THey are northamptonshire based. Rushden way I think. they are good sturdy machines, but still not the best at sewing through masses of Jeans fabric..
My oldest friend I had, sewing machine wise, was a Janome, New Combi. I loved it. It had two ends. One end you had a twin overlock, and the other end the normal sewing machine. I made over 300 wedding dresses a year on that! Still have it. But its in a cupboard somewhere as it was starting to miss stitches, and then I had a new MyLock, (in 1995ish).!When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
