hi I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have alot of cusions that I would like to get covered as have changed decor. I am not very good at sewing btw!! But looking today it is so expensive to find the colour (black) that I want for them. Money is alittle tight at mo. (as it is for all/ or most!)
I was wondering if it is difficult to make them for someone with very little sewing knowledge (but willing to learn)! Or is it cheaper to just pay the £20 to £30 that it would cost.
    Thanks

I would be tempted to buy either a sheet or duvet set. Most supermarkets sell singles for around a £10 now and lots of lovely designs.

Otherwise if you want plain black (that would be a no no in this house lol, black shows sticky fingerprints more than any other colour) look for a cheap poly-cotton, like lining fabric.

I would make them with an envelope back. much easier than a zip & you can still wash the covers.

Rufasdog well done on your sofa!!!!!!! I tried to leave a message on your blog but is failed :(

And gorgous curtains pollyskettle. I am desperate for new front room curtains but I have a massive baywindow & a smaller one. Last time, a friend sewed 2 pairs together for the bay but I cant find any at a cheap-enough price & keep losing out on fabric on ebay! (I would need 2 pairs 90X90 for the bay plus a more standard size for the small window.

I like the trim on the side of yours, that might be another option if I find some on ebay that are not quite big enough.

    Penny Your cushion is fab!

I have not done much sewing, was a bit poorly last week and not in a sewing mood (us Mothers are not allowed to be ill, so I was soldiering on as usual lol) This week I have quite a few Job applications to do, fingers crossed X
I desperately want to get the boys quilts finished in time for Christmas so may end up sat up sewing late into Christmas Eve :rotfl:

I would second what Tamster has said about an envelope back. It is so easy. The cushion that I posted on here a few pages back has that sort of back.

I thought I'd get an office chair from IKEA, but thought they were pretty uncomfortable (though long time ago, may be better now). In the end I managed to get a second hand office chair from a second hand office shop (If you see what I mean!). Cost me £40 back in the early 90s, and is still going strong. We bought the girls IKEA office chairs, they didn't last well, but then they were the cheapest they did - 2 teenage girls = chronic shortage of cash! ;):o

    Good luck!

Here is the wreath that I made last night and this morning. Really pleased with it. November+pictures+2011+204.JPG

Looking great. Where did you get the wreath from? I would love to give it a try.

The idea came from Simly Homemade magazine.
Basically you get a wire coat hanger, and bend it into as near a circle as possible.
Then you find the fabrics you want, in this case I used a pillowcase, and some fabric from a duvet and a sheet, to around the same amount as the pillow case.
I ripped it up into lenths of approximately 2cm wide and around 8cm or more. the information said 8cm but I found that it was a bit tight to tie, and would recommend more like 10cm lengths.!
Then you just tie the pieces in a normal half hitch all around the hanger. I chose to add approximately 10 strips of each fabric and continue in a pattern of 10 pink, 10 plain, and 10 patterned.
then when it was as full as I could get it really, I then tied on Ribbon Bows, (obviously need to be a lot longer, but I didnt measure them as I just used what I had in my stash.)
I continued to add bows and some beaded lengths until I was happy.
Then I sewed a cover piece of fabric, and covered the hook, gathering up the tube with running stitch, and stitching to the rest of the fabric near the neck of the hanger.
Then I added a few bells for the final touch.
In the magazine they added bows and buttons too. To make it for any time of the year. They also did one in a Heart shape with more organza ribbons, and less fabrics, bit more delecate.

    Hope that helps.
