Rufusdog, I do seem to be gathering masses of fabrics.
When I get back from the course this weekend, I will have to start to remove them from thier carrier bags, and get them into some sort of order. Perhaps colour ways first. Then i can see what I actually have, then after that, I can work out if I think they are actually going to be used for my projects or if I can pass them on! If I can make a few pence for them the better. I have over spent on fabrics and so I am going to have to pull my horns in or will not have any money for the holidays, etc.
I made a little fabric heart, with a bit of scraps last night and had a go at writing in fabric paints on it. Not brilliant, but it was just a practise. DGD likes it and will hang it on the christmas tree she says. Spent a good 2 hours clearing out my portable sewing box! I have masses of buttons in there as well as buckles from the 50's and 60's. Taken those out, as I wont need them this weekend. Fascinating the things I have managed to buy, acquire and horde!

I am loving the free embroidery sewing Tamster. I havent tried yet! Maybe I will play at the craft course this weekend. I shall have to pack my machine feet.

Received my first fabric order yesterday. Love them! :) I think I'm going to make some hearts and birds, maybe make them lavender smell or just normal to hang as Xmas decorations as the fabrics are quite christmassy.

I'd also love to buy these two scandinavian themed fabric bundles:

I got 4 pendants from each fabric out of mine, so eight triangles per fabric IYSWIM? Depends on how big you want them, I did mine quite big but 16 pendants was enough for what I wanted!! :D

the problem is I still want to do the hearts and birds, they're going to be presents. If we decide to buy a tree, I'll buy more and do the bunting. I'd go relatively small as well.

Can anyone recommend good places for fabrics? Interested in buyin smaller amounts with variety for items, perhaps bags of remnants or whatever?

  • Thanks everyone.
The Ballerinas are not as good as I would like, but I am still really pleased with them. Think it is one of those things that you can only get better at by practising. Would love Kirsty's machine with it's stitch size-regulator. (anyone else notice the long-lingering close ups of the sewing machine brand name :rotfl:and I thought she advertised another (less expensive brand)

there is a long list of fabric suppliers on the "no-chat thread"

Some places do remnnant or scrap bags but they usually work out the same price as buying meterage. Athough it does allow you to posses a range of designer fabrics. Fabric Rehab is one supplier. (although they are currently out of stock atm) But really, your best bet is ebay. Or I have recently bought a "charm pack" (pre-cut 5inch squares) that I am going to use for my free-motion applique.

Some of the peeps on here have done alright in Abakhans and some other local stores (particularily those that sell curtain fabrics) and walked out with big bags of remnants. Sadly I am a southerner and I don't seem to find any bargains (well apart from Fabricland but then I buy far more that I went in for)

You also try CS & CB for duvets/pillowcases etc. The non-chain ones tend to be the best as I think a lot of the cs now "rag" all of the donated linens :(
