I am afraid that while not sewing, I have been [STRIKE]wasting[/STRIKE]oops spending money, buying even more fabrics. when I started to think about my spends this last few months I have started to have kittens!! EEK. I must be fit to sew, and get my money back! Especially as I will soon be having bills etc to pay and if my maths is wrong I am in trouble!
I am definitely a fabricholic!!:o:DWhen I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Oooh, don't say that, I know I want to build up my quilting-weight stash...but there really is very little room left in this house...have already sent loads of my other crsfting stuff to the shed...just need to get power there and I'll be fine
Mind you, DS1 is leaving next week, so I can take over his room again until mid December :j:j:j:j...not that I want him to go (yes I do! :rotfl:)
That's what I've been doing as well, building a stash up, as, isn't it frustrating when you get the urge to make and the right fabrics arn't there. That's what I think anyway
An extra room eh....have you got the shelves all measured out yet;)
Step away from the fabric Mooloo :rotfl:
Sorry that your arm is sooo painful must be frustrating for you. Hope you can get some relief soon. We just saw a leaflet in Llidl and they have a shawl type of electric blanket to put around the shoulders which I thought was a great idea. Don't know when the offer is on tho as I didn't see any in my store. Would this be helpful to you?0 -
Hi Booter, how lovely to have been given such a lot of gorgeous fabric :j
Are you thinking homeware or clothes to make? For clothes then I'd prob go for a tunic style top/beach kaftan (fairly easy) or !!!!!-bow blouse if you're up for a challenge.
I've sewn with chiffon before years ago and to be honest it was a pain in the backsideIt frayed like mad and slid about under your machine foot. I ended up doing enclosed seams to hide all fraying and strengthen the seams. But it did look fab
Go for a fine needle as normal size will cause snags & pulls.
Thanks avstar. Yes, I'm very lucky - I think!:/ But now I have the dilemma of what to make. I was thinking of something to wear (not homeware as I've never seen anything in homeware in chiffon:)). I have made (years ago) a couple of blouses, but all I've done for the past 10 years or so is repairs/alterations (and the odd peg bag!) I've never sewn with chiffon, and I guessed it would be a nightmare! Is this where I develop "Sewing Tourrettes":) Thanks for the advice :A If - no, I'll be positive - when I find a pattern and get it together, I'll let you know how I get on. But in the meantime, any further advice is welcome. Thanks again.0 -

Well, I still haven't managed to get an action shot, am hoping to tomorrow, but we'll see. Depends if I can leave work on time (2pm officially but anything up to 4pm - unpaid!) not unusual...
Mooloo, I'm so sorry it's too painful to see, you have my sympathy... Have you tried heatpacks? The kind you boil and then snap to release the heat? And a fab phrase! Fabricholic - I'm definitely one too! Alexander Henry is catching my eye at the moment... Although I'm not sure baby carriers with psychedelic skulls on would really work!
I had some bad news yesterday, OH possibly in the line for redundancy - but after a mad panic last night, and some quick advice from MSE (as ever!) I think we can cope for a while if the worst happens. It just seems to be one thing after another at the moment, but my stash will see me throughI have a girls night out on Friday to look forward to though, which will be fab (if not a little drunken, but very MSE it's half price wine on Fridays :-)
Good project vibes to all, may your seam rippers forever languish at the bottom of the box...0 -

mine is red hot
Been trying to quilt the quilt I made DS last year (wanting to get them done in time for this Christmas as I din't quite make it last year)
But just cannot get the tension sorted. Have googled & tried quite a few things. Grr
I think it maybe that some of the fabric is a poly twill type and the rest, inc the backing are thinner cottons.
Will pop to the quilt shop tomorrow & see about a different, possibly thinner thread.
Sorry to hear about your DH redundancy threat!0 -
Hi all, was just wondering how often do you change the needles on your sewing machine? The book I got for my birthday says to change after each project. Not that I've worked out how to change needles yet...0

mmm...that's a bit too frequent methinks. Though if you have been working with heavy-weight material, you should use the correct needle, same with thinner materials. Think a regular change when quilting may be in order, not sure, not done many yet!!!

HiI change my needle when I break it :rotfl: Im bad at remembering to do it
I do change to a higher No. needle if I do thicker fabric's as I kept breaking the needle till I realised it was struggling to go through the fabric
To change the needle you undo the screw on the side next to it (I keep a 2p in my machine kit) and it will slide out, then you just slide the new one, flat side to the back, in and tighten the screw again
I brought a pack of mixed needles off ebay so I always have some handy
MyskI hope everything will be ok for your OH and you
Hope everyone has a good sewing day, Im at work today 10-1 then again 6-9 tonight but as I said before, more fabric moneyGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing
