Thanks Keiss,
I am afraid that Its the repetative movements that cause me to struggle at the moment, and so knitting would probably be as much damage as the typing is doing, and the handstitching! Maybe I will try again soon. Loss of the use of my left arm is not that easy to explain, or to adapt things too! And on that note, I have to stop typing again! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Keiss your bag is gorgeous and I love Llana and Floss as your business name. Mine is Wag Doll, a sort of play on words with rag doll cos I do old fashioned crafts but I love bling :rotfl: Atho not sure how much of a business it will ever be, I don't have enought time to sew for me never mind make anything to sell
Mysk the cowprint carrier is fab! Fashionable and useful :j
Pogie2 def look in your local market if you have one, I bought some lovely 100% pure printed cotton from Leeds market for £4 a metre. Lightweight polycotton was £2 a metre. Fabric shops in Leeds are more expensive than this.
Mooloo, sorry to hear your arm is still poorly, hope you're feeling better soon.
Lidl have a sewing machine listed on their website for £60 - think it's on sale from Thursday, if anyone wants a cheap full-size machine to see if they like sewing before buying an expensive one? There's a v funny video tutorial with some dreadful English dubbing :rotfl:0 -
Hello all - I've just spotted this thread, and I'm hoping someone here may be able to help with a thread I posted on OS the other day.
I've been given about 5 metres of a chiffon type fabric with a beautiful black/cream feather type pattern, and I'm after some ideas of what to do with it (keep it clean, now!!) Plus, any cheap/free patterns that anyone's aware of to use with this fabric? Also, any advice on how difficult it is to sew (machine) or anything I need to be aware of!
(Am I asking too much?:undecided: Looking forward to hearing suggestions! Ta!0 -
I have just got my parcel of fabrics from the sale, and no sewing machine0

Oh dear rufus..but you can spend your time looking through all the lovely fabrics and planning!!! You could also cut out lots of things, so when you get our machine back you will be off the mark sharpish!!! I find when I am itching to stitch I get a bit frustrated with all the cutting out, as all I want to do is get the machine out!! Also, check you have enough matching threads...that realy got me down until I did a mega thread-shop @ DE Mill a couple of weeks ago. Any idea when you will get your machine back?
One of the materials I ordered was out of stock, so I exchanged a few nice emails with Jackie and picked an alternative...been busy trying to clear the decks of all my other stuff to do, so I can get cutting/sewing on Friday....busy at the weekend, so it's my only free day until next week! Still trying to sew in the conservatory, though we are still finishing off the decorating...fiddles and faddles yet to do, so need to keep moving things about.
Have a lovely day...sunny here this morning...hope it lasts!!

Hi Booter, how lovely to have been given such a lot of gorgeous fabric :j
Are you thinking homeware or clothes to make? For clothes then I'd prob go for a tunic style top/beach kaftan (fairly easy) or !!!!!-bow blouse if you're up for a challenge.
I've sewn with chiffon before years ago and to be honest it was a pain in the backsideIt frayed like mad and slid about under your machine foot. I ended up doing enclosed seams to hide all fraying and strengthen the seams. But it did look fab
Go for a fine needle as normal size will cause snags & pulls.

Keiss - I am really itching to get stuck in lol, I think I might spend the day tomorrow up in my room going through what I have and seeing if I can cut out some bags ready to sew up when it comes back. Last time they had it they sent it back within about a week I think so hoping one day next week.0
