Pootle, did you get the email from Folksy about the changes they are making? I couldn't really understand it all, they were saying about making it a rule that everything you make has to be your own design so I don't know whether they mean you can use a bought sewing pattern anymore. The bags I have on there at the moment, some are my own designs but two of them are from a bought pattern. Also the rag dolls are from a pattern from a magazine so I was thinking I would have to take these off sale in November. May be I have got it wrong as I really couldn't get my head around it. Did anyone else read it and understand the new rules?0

Hi, I didnt get it but Ive read it and think we are OK. They state that one of the following must be adhered to.
Craft Skills: The item is handmade by you through a craft practice, for example knitting (either using a pattern you have created or one that you have permission to use), woodturning or sewing.
Original Design: The item has an original design. For example we allow knitted garments made using mass produced wool, handbags made using mass produced fabric or jewellery designs using mass produced beads as long as these are based on an original design. Also, the item may not be made by you (e.g. prints of illustrations or photographs or decals of original artwork) but must be your original design and not a copy of someone else’s.
When you buy a pattern you are buying the rights to sell the product you make commercially so to my mind we are covered under the heading of Craft Skills. I think its mainly people making jewellery and candles etc that will be affected. Think they are completely shooting themselves in the foot with this. I reckon they will lose alot of trade. Im thinking of listing on Misi. Do you use it? Ive set up a shop but not listed anything yet as I know its not really that well used just now but think it will be going forward.
Sue, do you use 2oz poly wadding for that bag? I used it for this as its much cheaper than fusible fleece but wondered if you had any other suggestions or if you used either of these too?0 -
Thanks Pootle, I hope this is right as would be a pain if we had to take off stuff we made using a pattern. I have never heard of Misi before but will have a look. Thing is I don't get many things to actually put in my shop so once they are in the Folksy shop I don't think I could put the same thing in a different shop at the same time. I am hoping the sales might pick up nearer Christmas and may be the quilts will go better when the weather cools down a bit more.
Edited to add, I have made up a shop on there too, I havent got anything on it yet, I might take some of the cushions that are similar off Folksy and try them on this one. I think it needs a bit more work done on the shop first as I am not that sure on what I am doing on it yet. Thanks for telling me about it xx0 -
From the second email Folksy sent, I thought that you could leave anything on there that you already had on, but you couldn't list anything new that contravened the rules.0

Unfortunatley only until November and then they will be removed if they remain unsold.
Rufus, Im same as you. Most of my things are one offs so cant list on more than one site. Im sure your quilts will go once the cold weather comes in (which Im sure is imminent!)0 -
Ahh your sock monkeys look fab. I need to give these a go, I am always throwing out odd socks, and I have a nephew I think would love one for Christmas - he gets far too many plastic toys!I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off

Please excuse me from jumping in. I love reading this thread and seeing all the things you make, but I haven't had time to do much sewing myself! I have saved the instructions for cleaning a sewing machine, that someone posted, as mine always knots up the bottom thread all the time.
I have always been concerned about copyright and have wondered how people sell bags etc, made from patterns as most craft books these days say "items made from these patterns are not to be sold" or words to that effect, on the copyright page. Indeed lots of people's blogs on the internet say the same things.
I used to do rubberstamping years ago, and there were "angel companies" that let you sell cards made with their stamps, but with the majority of companies you were breaking their copyright.
I haven't bought paper patterns myself, but have found this on the internet, where an ebay seller has contacted McCalls and received their reply: http://reviews.ebay.com/McCall-apos-s-pattern-copyright-information_W0QQugidZ10000000009509223
Hope this helps0
