Hi Mooloo, did you have a nice holiday? Nice to see you back again xx

Thanks, it was brilliant. But when DGD was asleep I missed my sewing!. Especially when I had gone through two books as well!.

Will be glad to get on to a new routine when DGD goes back to Nursery next week. The help that Molly's daughter gives me is going to change, and be spread over 3 days instead of one/two. Which will mean that she will collect DGD from Nursery and give her her lunch, and I can sew for about 5 hours a day! Yipee. I can then catch up on the makes that I have got on order and some others for the website. When its sorted out properly that is.
Time to get serious about what I am doing.:D

Any tips on theading elastic through casing without it folding would be greatly appreciated.
I use a safety pin to thread it through which is ok with narrow elastic but the wider elastic folds so it doesn't lie flat.
    Thanks.

not sure why. perhaps the casing is slightly to narrow?
if its rolling during wearing? if so, then sew a seam through the elastic will stop it.

    Elastic problem...cont'd.

Mooloo..thanks for your reply. I have tried a wider casing and blow me the same has happened again. I get to half way and can feel it folding....so annoying. I wonder if it is the quality of the elastic?
    Any more helpful suggestions?

I would say that you are probably having to pull it through too taughtly then. It really needs to be quite slack to pull through the garment, as far as you can. Move the fabric along at regular intervals, and pull it slowly.
I always use a safety pin. Have done for 35 years! There are some blunt ended roulou (?) needles for turning through tubes, that you could try attatching to the elastic and feeding that through?
Otherwise I am stumped - Sorry.

Thanks for the welcome back hart! Happy sewing tomorrow. I have really missed my sewing.
I have lots to do to keep me busy next week. So I will get back in my stride. Meanwhile i have a few small squares to sew together and add to the ones I was experimenting with while sitting at BFs at the weekends.
I left a bag of my goodies at the nursery school before I went away, so with any luck there may have been some interest with the staff, and some of the other mums. May have sold some or have sparked an interest for orders anyway. We will see.

Maybe you could try sewing a case for the elastic, similar to a handbag strap, round the elastic and then thread the bag strap thing through the casing. Once it's in, you could then pull the bag strap out, leaving the elastic in there?

Gosh I must be tired, that sounds so complicated! I will read it again tomorrow and make better sense of it I am sure!.
Do you mean enclose the elastic inside some fabric then thread it through the garment?
Why not Make a seperate wasteband, that you sew around the elastic, then join it to the item? Cant remember was it a skirt?
God I am so tired I am struggling to think properly now! Time for me to switch off and get an early night me thinks.
    Happy sewing everyone.

Sorry, cannot think of any other options. I sew the channels, with a small hem at the top, thread through, by pinning the end to the fabric just below the insertion point. (the inch or so left to thread it through with). then thread it through, follow it around with my fingers, and make sure its straight. Then sew it together on the machine. And even it all out, then close the gap.
I have sewn the waistband method, where you enclose the fabric around the elastic, then sew that to the garment. But I prefer the first method.
Other then that I am flummoxed.
I did plan on an early night, ended up faffing about on ebay, and realised my MSE was still on. (and I have spent all my holiday savings on ebay if I win. Oh heck keep me off of buying fabrics on ebay!!).
