Mysk, I was on facebook earlier and there was a link to this from the above all fabric facebook page. Remembered you had asked about ruffler feet so this should help.

Thanks Florence, making clothes isn't as hard as people think, these tops were quite easy. I wrote a bit on my blog how I did them. I made the two in an afternoon.
I have made clothes in the past. I used to sew clothes for my Daughters - I made the three of them the skirts that were the rage in the 80s - with the wide elastic waistband. I also made a lined jacket and blouse for my daughter to wear to uni interviews. When they were at uni - I made their ball dresses. I just don't seem to make clothes now.

Looks like they are more complicated than I thought... Thanks for the link, will have to print it out and digest slowly :-) no sewing this evening, brats have been more brattish than usual so am going to slob with rubbish television and write lists of things that won't get done. OH has been fab though and has painted our front hall today while I was out with aforementioned brats - 2 coats, cutting in as well and it looks fab! We are part way (hesitate to say half way!) through a renovation project and it's going a bit slowly at the moment. House is liveable but dusty and unfinished. New roof in October should help, but will wipe out every penny we have - but should reduce heating bills significantly as current roof has zero insulation...

    Sorry, am off topic now.

Next project is a sampler for a friends wedding in October. Just sketching some ideas up, I've done some cross stitch ones in the past but I fancy appliqu! and freehand embroidery this time. Ambitious but should be fun!

I did samplers for two weddings ages ago - before I was taking digital photos to store on computer so can't help that way. I appliqued the names/date and decorated the edges with cross stitch. I used calico - lined it with wadding and framed.

Off topic is fine. I hope the renovations go well. Sounds like you getting there slowly but surely. Im in limbo at moment so staying in a rented place but found a house we love so moving soon (fingers crossed!) I dont have any brats yet but can only imagine how much more difficult it must be trying to do everything as well as being a mum. Let us know how you get on. Bet it will look fabulous once its finished. xxx
  • Hello lovely people!

ive been lurking on this thread for a while and thought id take the plunge and say hello!

i have requested to join the facebook group so i can have a nosy at the pics! :)

I have no sewing experience whatsover, however tonight i tried to make a heart shaped pomander/cushion thing and it didnt go very well :o

I had some lovely fabric i found really cheap at a carboot, so i went and bought needles, thread and some wadding and had a go but its all wonky and not at all symmetrical. I havent stitched it properly by the looks of it as its not even closed in some parts! lol! maybe i should buy a sewing machine to do it for me! :p

so its back to the basics! i look forward to seeing everyone's creations!

We have all been there katie! Did you use blanket stitch? Best thing to do is to buy some teatowels or get some stuff out of a charity shop and try stuff out on them before you use any nice fabric so you recognise your mistakes first. You will get the hang of it soon and we are always here to help! x

    Good morning everyone :D

I love all the makes :T you have all done some beautiful sewing :D

The craft fair turned out to be a bit rubbish :( all the crafters were not happy as we were all shoved into a greenhouse, there was also a CB in the field, as the marquee could not hold all of us. We had to use the potting tables and there was no room for the customers to walk down the middle and look at things either side as they all got pushed on
I sold 1 phone holder then packed up at 1pm as my stuff was getting dirty and I was bored, my mum sold loads on the CB and said people didn't want to spend too much money :(

I did have a quick look at some of the other crafters things and the sewing stuff was great, I also have some great ideas for things to sew :D

I have another CF at work in November so I have lots to sell then :rotfl: I have also had 3 friends want to buy my bags so not a great loss and more experience for me :D

I have come home with loads of fabric too :D

    Catch you all later :D
Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time :) and Love sewing :)

    Thank you PootleFlump :D

Blanket stitch? *runs off to find out what a blanket stitch it* cripes no I didnt! That looks quite complicated for me! :o I will learn from some vids ive just spotted on youtube.

I just done a straight stitch that looked like this - - - - - which is probably why it wasn't secured in parts and isnt the best stitch for the job :D

i so obviously have no idea what im doing! :rotfl: but there's loads of info here i'll get practising, thanks for the fab tip on buying cheap bits to practise on. :)

Doing that it would definitely have holes. Can you backstitch? That is the one that makes a continuous solid line, if you can't do the stitch you did and go around twice so the second time you fill in the gaps and it means you will have nice continuous lines on both sides rather than the pattern back stitch makes on one side and a straight line on the other.
