Love the felt hearts! So sweeeeet - might have to pinch the idea for Christmas presents for DD's friends - I try to make stuff as the 4 girls are all in the first 2 weeks of December... Expensive month!
I've finished my sketch design for a wedding sampler, I struggled a bit choosing a quote as I wanted something short (!) and not religious. Went with "the whole of my heart for the whole of my life" - apparently it's French, I though it sounded lovely - and quick to hand stitch! Just got to get my frame out and attach the material - I have an old style one where you have to stitch the fabric to the frame, which annoys me intensely, it's always worth doing, but I COVET one of those snap on ones... But i have a frame and it works which is the main thing. Tonight was running night tho, so will have to wait until tomorrow to get started ok that. I need to lose weight, hence the running (cheaper than the gym and I live near lots of lovely places to run outside) but it's hard going some evenings... Can't give up my custard creams though, so running it will have to be! And I need a present for a birthday do on Sunday so might try another ruffled purse, I've got the bits and OH is away Saturday night (cricket tour) so no interruptions once the mini-mysk's are bedded down. I love uninteruppted sewing with cool music on :-) I'll be mostly sewing to Lady Gaga and Cee Lo Green this weekend, what do you all listen to?
is the wedding sampler for you or for a friend? Just asking cause Im getting married next year and cause Im nosey!
Love custard creams but chocolate buttons (giant ones are my vice). As for Gaga...Oh yes!! Every Friday night in my house, Lady gaga is blaring. Love Cee Lo too but Gaga is definately one of my faves. Especially the newest album. :dance:0 -

It's for a friend, I'm already married :-) they're getting married at the beginning of October. They've asked for money instead of presents, (which I don't like anyway) and as we've only been invited to the evening do I decided to try and use up some of my stash and make them something nice instead. I remember offering to make a sampler for a friend once and she said she'd rather have something off the list, so I hope it doesn't go unappreciated this time...
Good luck with your wedding plans :-)0 -
Hellooo to all the new peeps & welcome!
Little-Sarah your felt hearts are so cute
I had my week off work and managed to visit lots of charity shops and a lovely fabric shop in Harrogate called the Remnant House, has pretty much everything in there. Also went to Leeds market and got some fabric there.
Thanks Seths-gran for the Dewsbury fabric shop info - will try and get there when I have another day off.
I asked my neice if she wanted me to make a dress for her sock monkey, and she said she wanted me to make a dress for her
Very nervously I copied her shirred summer dress and it turned out OK, will post a pic this evening
I also made a jersey skirt for me and one for DD, just made that up too, basically a slightly shaped square with a hem and elasticated waist LOL!
Pootle & Mysk, my musical accompaniment was David Guetta :rotfl:0 -
Hi I am thinking about makin animal door stoppers for family for Christmas anyone know where I can find templates and tutorials on this kind of thing? Thanks xxx0

Here's the summer dress I made my neice.
Was a bit worried as I started the shirring that it wasn't going to look right but after a few rows it all just sort of happened
I'm not sure you can see it on here but I put ric-rac on the bottom edge, I'm loving ric-rac at the moment :rotfl:0 -
Avstar - Gorgeous dress - well done.
Mysk_girl - The samplers I made were very well received - it is a unique present - go for it.

Oooh, that's so lovely - how do you do the shirring? Is it machine done or hand done? I have a small girl that would look lovely in something like that! Add to my long list of things to investigate...0 -
Thanks Mysk - the shirring was easy once I started it, it's done on the machine.
You need elastic thread and then hand wind it onto your bobbin, loosen the bobbin tension slightly and then sew straight parrallell lines on the fabric, with normal thread on top. The elastic thread is on the wrong side of the fabric.
The first few lines look a bit rubbish but then it magically starts to take shape. :T
There's quite few tutorials out there, I'll see if I can find one.0 -
This was one of the tutorials I read, she's making a hair decoration but the principle is the same.
I didn't bother marking the parrallell lines on the fabric, just used my machine foot to guide me with the previous line of stitching, if that makes sense.

It was quite easy, but just remember to tighten the bobbin tension back to normal again otherwise you'll have spaghetti junction in your machine! :rotfl:0
