You can use a sheet for the backing Pootle, I nearly always use poly-cotton sheeting on the backs of mine. You can buy it by the metre from Dunelm its about 3.99 a metre I think and its wide enough for double, I think its about 90 inches wide.

£7.50 a metre sounds a good price per metre to me for 100% cotton. I am not sure what my local quilting shop is selling it for these days as I havent been there for a while and its all gone up over the last few months.

Just make sure what you are getting for the top is 100% cotton as if you mix poly and cotton squares they dont always look as nice as if its all cotton on the top bit.

I think it looks fine for a basic machine. I would be inclined to check the weight of it as anything thats too light can end up bouncing around if you use a fast stitch. It has a drop in bobbin which is good and Im assuming you can lower the feed dogs if you need to as it has a quilting stitch but again I would check to make sure just incase you ever decide to do quilting on any great scale. It has a free arm too and snap on feet which IMO is always a good thing. Overall it seems to get good reviews and Brother machines are generally pretty good.x

Edit: Ive just checked the weight and its fine. Shouldnt move at all. Same weight as my machine and no issues.
  • Well, mini-mysk's in bed, OH no doubt well and truly leathered on the cricket club do, washing up not done, cleaning not done (tomorrow morning after the brats wake up circa 5am and before OH back circa lunchtime - plenty of time!). I'm going to a joint birthday party tomorrow for 2 friends of mine, so 2 of these

A brilliant little clutch bag mysk_girl, hope you get the next one done tonight :D. I usually find the second one takes less time to make up than the first, as you have already sussed out the whole sewing and making up process. Well done :T

Still no sewing done....been decorating again today, but have at last finished the painting!!
:j DH even managed to clean and stain two of the three outside sides today. So the conservatory is looking amazing, both inside and out, even though I say so myself :D

Here's hoping I can get some sewing done later on the week. DS1 is home for a good while atm, so I can't even nab his room to sew ;) Still, he's back to uni in less than four weeks...then I can take over his room again until December!! :rotfl:

    ive just found it here
    http://www.sewingmachines.co.uk/brotherxl2120AG_info.htm

it says it has a feed cover which i think means you cannot drop the feed dogs, you have to place a small plastic cover over them to do free needle work, ie quilting or sewing on buttons.
