Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker Mortgage-free Glee!
Just thought I might be able to save freezer paper users some money (which is, after all, the point of this site!) as is it quite expensive.

You know the shiny wrapper on packs of photocopy paper? Well that's the same stuff. And it's free. If you work in an office you probably have a constant supply without even knowing it!

    Hope this is useful.

Oh dear, here we go again.

Well done Mysk - I love the gathered clutch purse :T

Oh dear ChocolateIsLife, how frustrating to get to the end of aproject and then burn it with the iron, I think I would have cried!

Well no sewing for me this weekend as I was in technical mode, I finally tookthe plunge and made a blog :j I've written a post and put some pictures up too, altho I spent most of the time piddling about with the different colour schemes you can have........:rotfl:
I will try and attach it to my profile.

Yippeeeee I haave a follower :j Thanks Nikied, I have followed you back.

Got lots of blogs I want to follow properly now instead of just saving them in my favourites. Much easier now I have a dashboard thingy to show me everyone's new posts. I think I need to go back in and tweak something so it shows who I am following, Yikes there's so much to learn but I'm glad I finally took the plunge.
  • Hmm the freezer paper thing sounds interesting - I quite like hand embroidery, might use this method to do transfers... And I work in a large office, so will have to investigate the printer paper packets!

Am loving hearing everyone's experiences, especially avstar with the blog - I have one but I've never done anything with it, I think it's about time I pulled my finger out - just time - all these cuts going on, we're lucky we still get 24 hours in each day! I could well do with more, but sadly that isn't going to happen. We have a great bedtime routine for the mini-mysk's, so they are both tucked up by 6.30pm, which does mean I get decent free time in the evenings... And today's exciting news is.... My cleaner starts tomorrow! Have finally cracked and admitted that 2 under 4 and working 24 hours (4x6hr days) means that the cleaning *might* have slipped slightly... OH does LOADS, but we have decided to get help. 2 hours every other week should at least mean the bathroom and kitchen will be done properly, and she'll also do as much else as possible. Yay!

Last day of my summer hols, back to work tomorrow :-(
  • Well done Mysk on getting a cleaner (although you will probably find that you clean the house before the cleaner arrives! lol)

Avstar, nice one re the blog. Im following you now too! Is that you in that fab profile piccie? I lurve your hair. You look reeeeally cool!!!!

Mysk having a cleaner sounds bliss! Anything that makes a busy life easier has to be a good thing. I'm trying to do the 'advert housework' routine. I force myself to leap up during any advert break and do something useful, empty the dishwasher, make a bed etc etc, it's amazing what you can cram into 3 minutes :rotfl:

Thanks Pootle and I Love Pugs, I'm following you guys too altho not sure if I'm showing up onder my blog name or avstar....got a bit confused with that bit :o

Yes that's me in the piccy, a couple of years ago I had to have my hair cut short after a home dye disaster and my hairdresser went 'creative'.... It's longer now but I like that piccy for internet use as it is me, but not how I normally look ...disguise.....

Can I just ask if any of you with blogs have a problem with hacking?

I used to have one and was innundated with SPAM and people trying to hack so I closed it down.
Not sure if I was just unlucky?

Still not sewing much as I'm so busy knitting. I have knitted 23 (soon to be 25) items for an Advent Calendar for my Grandson. Pics on Knitters Thread if anyone is interested.
Does anyone know of a way of making 'baggy' pockets?
If I made flat ordinary pockets some of my items won't fit as they are very 3D

Can only think of doing an inverted pleat?
:oJack of all trades ... Master of none :o

Wow, thanks for all the info everyone. I will probably give them a miss then and look elsewhere.

Hi everyone I have just found this forum though haven't had time to read through the whole thread. Some lovely people, ideas and links so I expect to be back.

Thought I would just add my comment which is that when buying a sewing machine for the first time or when upgrading to an expensive model I think the best option is to find a local sewing machine shop who will take the time to discuss your requirements, demonstrate machines, be there to deal with any problems including not understanding how a feature works etc.

I actually bought a machine from Coopers about 4 years ago and as the machine has been very reliable I haven't had any experience of their customer service. I did notice when I received the machine that one of the conditions of the 15 year guarantee was that the machine has to returned in the original box (which is stored in my shed). I just wanted a reasonably basic machine to take to workshops and classes so it was a quick buy. Looks like I had a lucky escape!

When I bought an expensive machine last year I used my local shop and as they added various free accessories and I didn't have to pay for delivery (or the free instructions and after sales care) I don't think it actually cost me any more than I would have paid online.

This may not be a practical solution for you but might be worth considering.
