Didn't get second one done, I had to perform open lining surgery to trim the seam allowances on no. 1, by the time I'd done this and hand stitched it shut (machine top stitched first time and decided it looked rubbish...) I thought I'd have a break. Woke up on sofa at 1am and staggered upstairs for 4 hours kip before DS woke at 5. Other friend has got home made blackberry jam, orange marmalade and plum jam wrapped up prettily. Hope she's not too nose out of joint about the clutch bag... Christmas maybe!0

Hope you enjoy your machine! Here are a few I have bookmarked. There might be more links on no chat thread. x

Afternoon everyone.
I did a little bit of sewing yesterday, started on a new cushion cover but I have been a bit put off lately as my machine is still playing up. It is slipping stitches still, I have changed the needle again to a new universal one, have had all the bottom out and cleaned it, top and bottom threads are the same. It is also making a loopy bit on the bottom every so many stitches that looks like a knot with a loop. It means I can't do anything that needs topstitching or any thing. I was trying to zigzag some applique to my cushion cover front but where it keeps missing the stitches its not looking very nice sewing.
I am going to my sewing shop in the week to see if they have some proper singer sewing needles and see if this makes a difference, otherwise I just don't know what to do with it. I am sewing just plain cottons now and its still slipping the stitches so not due to sewing jersey.0 -

Thanks for the links Pootle, really helpful. Have had a good day looking through youtube vids and getting to know my sewing machine. Made a phone cover to nearly right at the end and burned it on the iron so back to square one! oh well, all part of the learning (thar's not what i said when I did it though!)0

Hi everyone,
we have been on our hols this past week so a lot of catching up to do!
:jWELCOME to all the newbies! very impressed with the newbie who read the whole thread! It took me the whole of last summer to catch up when I first found this thread.
I took a simple x-stitch with me despite loathing hand sewing lol! I bought it at a craft show back in the spring, I was with a friend who is very into x-stitch and I rather liked the saying "cleaning whilst the children are growing, is like shovelling snow, whilst it's still snowing."
I have made a good start, but it is another addition to my WIP list
I am also ploughing on with my vintage linen quilt. I have become slightly obsessed with making tiny pinwheels out of 2inch squares! I am going to use them as a border for some of the bigger embroideries.
right, off to pack away all my !!!!, or the little ones will get hold of it in the morning!0 -
and Pootle - I wanted to ask, have you tried the freezer paper transfer? Do you think it would stand up to washing? My local quilt shop sells the freezer paper. I might have a play before Christmas.0

And here is the first one - I don't think I'm going get 2 done tonight...
Well done Mysk :T the clutch bag is greatI still have to get around to making one of these
I have not done any sewing this weekend as I have been catching up with my decluttering so I have room to sew :rotfl: as fast as I use some of the fabric some gives me a load more but I shouldn't complain as it all comes in usefulI just need somewhere to store it all so I don't forget what I have.
I hope to get sewing again soon as I have 2 new patterns on the way from ebayGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a timeand Love sewing

Hi, yes I have done it but TBH it wasnt something that I washed. As its just normal ink I wouldnt have expected it to stand up to washing. Will probably just run. You can also use it for stenciling if you wanted to cut a stencil and then use washable fabric paints which would be fine in the wash. If you wanted to use it on something you are going to wash, I would use heat transfer paper instead. It washes fine and irons OK providing you put a teatowel on top of it and do it on a low heat (or iron the reverse). You get the heat transfer stuff on ebay or can get sheets (rather than rolls) of freezer paper on Amazon. x0
