I'm a bit confused as to who the bunting is for. When you say 'Mum' are you referring to your daughter? Surely not your Mum?Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Lovely makes florence. Really like your doorstops. Look great with that fabric. Re. the shoes, I would break an ankle within minutes. I used to wear heels all the time a few years back but have now come to the conclusion that comfort is the way forward!0

Rufus dog, I will try out the rotary cutter again, when I get back, and maybe get a wider ruler. Mine is only around 2cm wide and about 50cm long. Metal one. I dont even remember where it came from! I used to have an old wooden yard stick once. But heaven knows where that went! I have umpteen tapemeasures and I still loose them all!. Usually they are hung around my neck, and then I am standing in the queue somewhere and realise I still have it on, and so I stuff it into the pocket of what ever I am wearing, and then find it again later!
I have the instructions for shoe stuffers in one of the Cath Kidston books I think it was. (If not its a tilda one?). Usually they suggest inserting a sachet of the lavender, within toy stuffing I think. Something I have not tried as my shoes are all cheapies.!! I too used to live in high heels, but due to the spine problems I am not able to anymore. I put a pair on the other day, just to go with an outfit, and felt so tall! But after walking in them for a few minutes decided that I would have to learn to walk in them all over again! I have some really high stilleto's but I cannot get rid of them!
Still being very inspired by all the lovely makes around. I will really miss my sewing when I go on holiday this week. I was trying to think about the possibility of taking some small hand sewing project with me, but then thought that my BF would probably think I was rather mad. or Sad, or both! When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Lovely makes Florence xx
I made two tops yesterday.
The fabric was £2 a metre and I bought two metres of each so £4 a top. I have sewn some beads around the front neck. There are a couple more photos on my blog.0 -
gorgeous tops - just the style I wear. Lovely fabric too.0

Can anyone recommend a good one? I dont want to get a random one and it snap within seconds of using it.
mines a Dafa i have had it ages and use it all the time very rarely use scissors.
it takes a 45mm blade which is about 1.75inch i use it with a 24.5 x 6.5 clear quilters ruller from creative grids, although i dont do alot of quilting.
the ruler is a good size for home decor projects like cushions and bags but i also use it when i have made my roman blinds too, as i said i tend to use it all the time. i got one of those sucker handles to put on it to make it easier to move about0 -

you need a proper quilters ruler realy to use a rotary cutter preferably a wideish one that keeps your fingers away from the blade.
mines is from creative grids its 6.5 x 24.5inch it is also rough on one side so doesnt slide when you puch against it with the cutter, i have another one thats only about 3x12 and that slides about all over the place but it was bought as a paper crafting ruler so thats probably why it just sits in a draw i use my big one for everything
so quick and easy to use0 -
Hi I love this thread you are all so clever. I have a lot of small squares of material and I was wondering about making pin cushions for my friends for Christmas. I am a complete beginner so please bear with me. 1. What would I use for stuffing. 2. Can I put some dried lavender in them? I will have to hand sew because I dont have a machine. I keep thinking I will treat myself one day lol x Thanks for all the advice Im sure you will pass on xx0

HMO, I think I will invest on my return from Portugal.
I want to continue making clothes as well as the bags etc.
I had some fabrics ordered from a company in Germany, but twice they sent me emails to tell me the stuff I had paid for was out of stock. Now one of the the things is sold out and not replaceable. So I have sent an email and cancel it. Hopefully they will give me a refund by the time I am back off my hols.
I wanted to make DGD's coat this winter.
I had a dress cut out for the holiday but with a dodgy arm, I havent made it to the sewing machine since last saturday.
We are off to the BF's tomorrow, so I doubt I will get to sew before then.
dotty girl, you can make lots of things handsewing, even with a few scraps. I havent the time today to give you any links, ideas etc but I am sure the people on here will.
I have spent a few days at BF's sewing by hand a few scraps and make enough to make a handbag, or cushion cover. All around 2" squares.
Pincushions are usually stuffed with polyester fibres, and or things like the filling from old cushions, duvets, and even cut up tights. All a pincushion needs to be is very well stuffed, and the main fabric firm enough to withstand lots of pins in it. So loose weave is useless you just loose the pins. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
