Hi everyone,I have a question for you
I have been given a nearly finished hand sewn patchwork bed cover ,it is made from hexagonal cotton squares in lovely lilac and lavender colours ,plains and patterns,It is really big, will nearly fit ,on top of a double bed,but the edges are not finished, they still have ,paper bits inside each hexagon, its not backed or anything, and I just have no clue how to finish making it up
It is beautifully handsewn ,with tiny stitches.
It has been stored in a bag for about 10 years.
Would it be worth shoving it on ebay, would anyone buy it to finish making it up or shall I just bin it?
thanks if you have any answers
Agree with others - definately dont bin it!! Could you maybe look at some tutorials online and finish it yourself? x0 -

Trying to do a zig zag the needle will move to the right places on the fabric but it isn't catching the bottom thread and i'm left with a dodgy straight stitch. Does anyone know what the problem is or is this something a pro needs to look at? thanks
have you tried all the usual things like changing the needle, re threading both the top and bottom bobbins, making sure you have not moved something/dial on your machine ie is the tension set where it should be, is the stitch length where it should be and not set to small in width so the needle cannot go from side to side.
is the spool winder on the top of your machine over on the left and not on the right as when you would be filling a bobbin
do your feet drop off has the bar thats holds the feet been screwed back on properly if you have taken it off for any reason.
remove the feet and unscrew the plate and remove the bobbin casing if its a drop in one and make sure you dont have anything in there thats causing a problem dust, bit of old broken needle?
cannot think of anything else0 -
I was also going to say the bobin holder. I had a problem with the undernath stitches (cant remember what the prob was now) but they said next time to have a quick look nd see if there were holes/problems with bobbincase (mine is a drop in one rather than at the front)0

Re the part made patchwork. What about getting a patchwork book from the library? I've made a patchwork cushion cover this way- much too slow a process for me I like pieced blocks like 'log cabin'. I mounted the zigzagged edges left from the hexagons onto a plain strip of fabric and then used other fabric on reverse- of course it was a much smaller item than a quilt! Even taking out the backing papers was too much hassle!.
Another comment about cheap fabric- look for charity shops that are run entirely by volunteers because usually they price items to sell! They would rather have a quick turnover and get the money!!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I'I think these may be local, independent CSs (not a national chain), many friends tell me these are the cheapest. I've seen lists of 'designer' labels in the sorting areas of CSs to advise the volunteers what to mark up. Depending on what you want to use the fabric for then cutting down skirts, frocks etc is a good way of getting cheap fabrics. Unless they've been marked up as vintage!;)0 -
So, the trip to Alnwick was lovely (sun came out!) I bought FQ's, beads, ribbon and knitting needles (Yes, I have finally mastered the art of knitting after buy a book called 'Made by Me')
Sadly, the search for charity shops selling fabric on the cheap was not successful. I did notice, on the bus ride home, that Amble had a few non-chain charity shops so I am going to head there at the end of September.
Lovely top, Georgiabay!0 -
