Help help, somewhere (yes it was somewhere) on this particular board (not this particular thread) were pictures of a kitchen memo board with instructions how to make.... I had some ideas of where to get mount board cheaper etc but I can't find the thread!!! Woe is me. They were made from co-ordinating papers. That's what comes of trawling on this website.- I couldn't bookmark- not my machine.
    Anyone help?

Hi everyone,I have a question for you
I have been given a nearly finished hand sewn patchwork bed cover ,it is made from hexagonal cotton squares in lovely lilac and lavender colours ,plains and patterns,It is really big, will nearly fit ,on top of a double bed,but the edges are not finished, they still have ,paper bits inside each hexagon, its not backed or anything, and I just have no clue how to finish making it up
It is beautifully handsewn ,with tiny stitches.
It has been stored in a bag for about 10 years.
Would it be worth shoving it on ebay, would anyone buy it to finish making it up or shall I just bin it?
thanks if you have any answers

I've made a top today using the free Sorbetto pattern

I've made it 2.5" longer than the pattern as I thought the original was a bit short.

What a lovely top, so fresh looking. I think the altered length is just right.

HMO; Beautiful notice board. I wouldn't want to put anything on it!

Hart: Yet more lovely bags. I like the way you match up your linings with the outside fabrics.

Dont bin it, I expect it took months and months to do if it was hand sewn. If you really dont want to finish it off then put it on Ebay and see what you can get for it. I am sure someone would love to finish it off.
  • I hope you all don't mind me asking for some advice, my sewing machine is playing up and wont sew anything other than straight, i have tons of settings that just aren't working. Trying to do a zig zag the needle will move to the right places on the fabric but it isn't catching the bottom thread and i'm left with a dodgy straight stitch. Does anyone know what the problem is or is this something a pro needs to look at? thanks

Long time lurker and first time poster on this forum (which is totally fab BTW!!) so a great big thank you to everyone for all the wonderful hints, tips and ideas on here - it's given me lots to dream about doing, even when I haven't had time to sew.

Sounds to me like it might be a problem with the step motor - a very similar thing happened to my machine but my local shop fixed it for about £35 and it was as good as new afterwards.

Apparently it's quite a common thing to go wrong - on my machine it also caused problems when using the reverse lever. If you've tried everything else, it's probably well worth getting a shop to look at it. Hope it all works out okay.

When I was 13 I started to make a hexegon flowers quilt.
I added to it on and off for years, here and there, with everything from my granny's clothes to mine, from bits the local dressmaker gave me, and then when I was a dressmaker, mine.
When we lost the pub, we had to sort out my stuff, and somehow my quilt which was being sewn onto a double sheet by then, and neary finished. Was to be my heirloom. it disappeared.
I always wondered where it ended up, and am sad that all those hours, years of work, 30years of it, were all lost!.
I would also like to dismember the member of my family that put it in the wrong place when we moved!
When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.

Ooh, definitely don't bin it! Try offering it for sale on our facebook group or ebay. If you don't have any luck with either of them I'm sure a charity shop would love it.

Mooloo what a terrible thing to happen after you'd put all that work in. And all the memories too.

Thanks for all the kind comments about my top.
