Thanks for the pre-washing advice and tips, of course a quick run through the zig-zag or overlocker on the 2 cut edges will solve most of it, doh!
And I have a couple of large laundry mesh bags I got from Dunhelm Mill (3 for £1) for small bits and pieces. I'm looking at making clothes when I finally get round to it so will def need items that have been pre-washed. Don't want to be struggling to squeeze my gut into shrunken clothes :rotfl:
Welcome Dotty girl, yes post pics of your hearts
Shirgirl, glad I'm not the only one who can't seem to get any sewing done, its so frustrating.
Ailsb can't wait to see the animal print bedroom makes, sounds fab!
And Hart, good luck today in trying to change your hours/job.0 -
I hope you all don't mind me asking for some advice, my sewing machine is playing up and wont sew anything other than straight, i have tons of settings that just aren't working. Trying to do a zig zag the needle will move to the right places on the fabric but it isn't catching the bottom thread and i'm left with a dodgy straight stitch. Does anyone know what the problem is or is this something a pro needs to look at? thanks0

Hi Lindseykim,
Before taking the machine to a repairers have you tried all the usual suspects?
Give you machine a really good clean, inc under the bobbin case etc, fluff causes havoc with stitches.
Also try a new needle. Re-thread the machine again carefully both top and bottom. Check the stitch tension. And check if your manual has any suggestions.
These checks usually sort the majority of problems. If the machine is still playing up then you might have to look at getting some repairs done to it. Good luck and let us know how you get on.0 -
Help help, somewhere (yes it was somewhere) on this particular board (not this particular thread) were pictures of a kitchen memo board with instructions how to make.... I had some ideas of where to get mount board cheaper etc but I can't find the thread!!! Woe is me. They were made from co-ordinating papers. That's what comes of trawling on this website.- I couldn't bookmark- not my machine.
Anyone help?Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Do you mean bobbins like the cotton reels or do you mean the ones that were used in a loom thingymajig? (that look like the shape of a really thin boat?:o ) Ebay have the old wooden cotton reels if thats what you mean.x
I asked because the communities I follow have problems with the idea that Flickr doesn't allow selling of items or photos related to the selling of items. It has always made me wonder how people who sell on Ebay (and use Flickr photos as hosting) get away with it. It just got me thinking about what you can and can't do with Flickr (Terms of Use is a bit confusing as well!) Thanks though, it helps a lot to hear peoples experiences with them.
I meant cotton reels, and found them today0 -
Lovely makes Hart and Midge, and welcome to Dotty!
I too don't wash my fabric before I use it, I can't be bothered to!0 -
