All the recipes are easy and pretty much bullet proof. Have a look at this thread, lots of tips. Do you want british cupcakes or the deep american ones that are approx the same size as muffin cases? http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=216746&page=2&highlight=cupcakes0

I did this for my dd's 18th in the summer. I made 4 batches of sponge, (250g stork, 250 sugar, 250g flour and 4 eggs) each did approx 24 buns. Decorated with glace icing coloured and left white, also some with melted chocolate, I'll try and find the photo. BRB"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. I used a cardboard rack thing for the buns. got it at hobbycraft, was about a fiver.
Just added recipe to former email above. You can get gold/silver foil cake papers, they would look really special. I was on more of a budget than that!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Now might be a good time to ask
If you decide on icing there are recipes and instructions for lots of them on that same bero site.
Then it just depends on whether you want to stick to simple or have yourself an artistic momentHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Make them ahead of time and freeze them. You'll just need to ice them on the day.0

Don't panic, cupcakes are easy, I'd just the "weight of four eggs" in butter/stork, s/r flour, sugar bung it all in together and mix it up. Add a bit of cocoa and drop a bit of flour for chocolate ones and add some slightly diluted coffee for coffee ones.
I'd bake ahead and freeze, then ice with butter icing piped in swirls with and icing bag, with a bit of practice it'll be fine.
Well done to you for doing this for you friend !Piglet
