i think you're going to need a proper one with holes to sit them in - i tried to make buns the other day, just put them in cases on a flat tray, they all fell down and i ended up with a big square of cooked bun mix with cases embedded in it :(:( so i think they need the support of a muffin tray

Yep that's what I was worried would happen :( oh well, I'll just need to wait until next week.

    Thanks :)

ive made cakes on a normal baking tray loads of time. they might spread a little bit so make sure you place them far enough apart but they come out perfectly edible. they didnt collapse into one giant square anyway

edit: i think maybe dont put too much mixture into each one
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire

I read that if you put the muffin cases double it helps.

I usually put the paper cases on a normal baking tray (like the one for putting chips on) and don't overfill the cases and they come out fine.
  • I have made them on a flat tray before, i put quite a lot on so they kind of supported each other :)

  • Thanks Drea - you've reminded me that I have a book on Cupcakes too that I'll go look for as DS is not keen on Christmas Cake.

Has anyone tried the individual silicone cupcake cases? Poundland had a pack of 8 (or maybe 10) which I'm guessing you would use in the same way as the paper cases and then wash to reuse. As you wouldn't need the bun/muffin tin they would be easy to store and saves buying paper cases.
Decluttering, home-making and 'proper' cooking are my priorities this year and trying to finish all those unfinished hobby projects before spending any more money!
  • Hi guys
Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas

Can nayone please tell me what recipe I would need for 24 cupcakes and also how best to display them so they look almost like a cake or would you use a stand?

We used a stand that we got from Hobbycraft. It was about £5 and packs flat. I'll see if i can find the pic. We had too many cakes for the stand, so they were stuffed on there rather. It was her 18th birthday party and about 10 stayed over. By morning there weren't many left LOL!

The story is that three of them were sharing an 18th ceilidh (yer, they're into folky stuff!). my dd (left) prefers fruitcake, one prefers plain sponge and the other chocolate cake. So I did a large fruitcake, plus chocolate and plain buns all iced. I think I made about 100! ... not as bad as it sounds reallly, just a 250g mix 4 times. I have 2 x 12 good bun tins plus a couple more. Dipped some of them in melted chocolate and the others kept making small batches of coloured icing till they were all done. purchased a couple of those drums of decorations (Fildes & Payne)

  • I posted the other day asking for a bit of help with a recipe for cupcakes to make a cupcake mountain for my DS 1st birthday
Just now ive made a few just to see if I can make them as my cooking skills are not the best and see how much mixture I would need
    I used-
    2 eggs
115g flour and butter and suger

They smell yummy which is always a good sign but that mixture only make 7 cakes is this normal?
I was hoping to make a mountain of around 20-30 cakes so at this rate my ingredients are going to cost quite a bit and then with icing and decorations
    Any advice is most welcome
