Wow this is so confusing! I use a muffin tin for muffins and U.S style cupcakes, the 'deep bun tin' for making fairy cakes and the 'shallow bun tin' for making mince pies and jam tarts, would never have thought of using it for anything cakey as I didn't think it would be deep enough!0

They had silicone muffin tins in Quality Save this week, loaf tims too, about £2 ish. Also known as Home Bargains i think0

I've become addicted to making cupcakes!!
Making them is pure escapism to me: everyone who is even remotely acquainted with me will be getting cupckaes at this rate!!
Here are my first attempts. I know they're not that great but considering I can't pipe I'm pleased with the results. I used a ziplock bag as an icing tool as the book suggested and it was much easier than any piping bag and nozzle.
The photo isn't great but the yellow one is supposed tho be sweetcorn with parsley butter on top!
Here are the first ones I made:"Finish each day And be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and Absurdities have crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can."

Wow! They look so good.:T
I am also addicted to making cupcakes and, of course, like all my addictions I have to have the accessories ie cakestands.
So now I have an assortment of cakestands and no room to store them.. but they look so pretty.
I get my decorating ideas from this site http://www.crumbsanddoilies.co.uk/scrapbook.html
Love to know how you made an icing pipe, I've only used glace icing so far.0 -
If your'e into cupcakes you must get the book Hello, Cupcake! (sorry, not very MS!!) but in it they describe lots of very easy techniques, one of which is the ziploc bag icing method. Real simple: put 6 layers of sellotape around the corner of a ziploc bag. Put buttercream in the bag. Expel as much air as possible. Seal the bag. Snip off 1/8 of an inch (or whatever size you want) of the sellotaped corner and pipe away!
It's so easy.
thanks for the link BTW...I'm off to have a look"Finish each day And be done with it.

I just thought I would let you know that I found some in Matalans a while back. They were £3 for a 6 hole tin and are made by Pyrex - I did bake some cupcakes and put them on my blog - but I am not sure if I can mention it here.Carolyn0

Asda were selling silicon muffin cases last week. £2 for 12 which I thought was very good vfm. They had 12 multi bright colours or 12 multi pastel colours - in the kitchen wares section (not the baking section) in our store. They would stand on a baking tray or in an ordinary fairy cake tray. Not used them yet though.0
