Our income just about covers our living expenses. I'd much prefer to be in a well paid job so I can turn up my heating. Our house is damp but we can't move. No. Nowhere decent takes 'DSS' and because we are painted as dirty, lazy, messy layabouts who sit on our backsides all day watching daytime TV, smoking & swearing, nobody will even give us the chance to state our case. It's a straight 'no'. They don't take into consideration an excellent credit rating & an immaculate 12yr rental record with not one late bill payment, the spotless condition that our home is in or the excellent references we can provide.
It's not a good life where you're given everything on a plate.
I think that EVERYTHING should be linked to NI contributions, that way maybe we could hang on to a last shred of dignity as I hand over a welfare milk voucher to the glaring supermarket cashier.
you have summed up how i feel as such x even down to houseing (aside from ive not been renting 12 years)Debt free

cor walked into something there eh? well, I too am a scummy single mother in a filthy house with screaming asbo kids lol ...not quite, a former nurse with kids with genetic disorders nobody saw coming...and a health service that screwed up failing to spot it all. but hey thats another tale... but anyway I am still yet to receive the cwps and after a week i finally got thru - BINGO!
I was told the IS staff issue payments automatically, but are reliant on staff passing on the info for those in receipt of the severe disability component for kids.
I couldnt be sure if he meant TC or DLA staff. He was a bit breathless and clearly a bit harangued so I grabbed what info I could.
In short, it takes up to 28 days to get this payment which is awful if you're lumbered with a prepay meter. Those things should be banned and the energy companies should be nationalised. Along with the pharmaceutical companies...oh dont get me started!0 -
what a stupid sweeping statement, in laws worked all their life, dad pi11sed it against the wall, so everyone in the majority has no morality or morals?, pathetic, ive worked most of my life and when i didnt i never claimed 1 pence in benefits. however through no fault of my own im in the position now where i have no other choice until a surgeon rectifies the problem, i have had 1 cwp payment, does that make me a low down bum scrouging of the benefits system?. no it does not because in the past when i could have claimed i didnt i lived on my own savings, pathetic post, have you ever thought of going into politics?, if not see a councillor to sort your issues out about your waste of space father, we arent all like him.0

As I found out to my immense shock last year, your whole life can change in the blink of an eye (or more precisely a hospital appt!!!) so don't let small minded un-informed people get to you...you know you're a decent person so who gives a toss what they think - they don't know you after all!!!!

Couldn't agree more! Sounds like my position is very similar, and because I'm not the JSA claimant I can't even get some current qualifications to find a job. Still waiting for the politicians to learn joined-up thinking...0 -

Please can we not go off topic, some posters have being doing an excellent job in helping those with queries and it would be a shame for one of the BGs to have to close this thread.

Sorry AOTG, The post really upset me. I'm fed up of hearing biased views like that, these people don't understand how much being on benefits can really restrict your life. It was an un-necessary post that has caused upset.
Anyway......back on topic.....
Is anyone getting an updated date on the CWP postcode checker? It's still giving the date of the 8th for me. Does it update during monday to friday only? It seems to be about 2oc today, so the nice roll for a 2nd trigger could well be brokenWatch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]0 -

I'm due 4 cold weather payments, but as of yet i've recieved none. yet my sister in law, who lives on the same street, has had 2 already.
My benefits are income support, and carers allowance. i get that one for my 9yr old son, who receives disability allowance.
and to top it off i'm on a pre-payment meter.
its costing us an absolute fortune.0 -

its costing us an absolute fortune. At the moment the only group of benefit claimants who are having problems getting an automatic payment of CWP are
IS (Income support) and CTC (child tax credits) with a disability premium/severe disability premium.
