That's what I though but the answer to a viewers question was "Yes DLA does qualify for a CWP".

Another point that was not made during this interview was that CWP are made automatically, the inference made was that you had to apply for them.
That's where problems arise from  yes by all means make people aware of what they may be entitled to but misleading people doesn't help anyone! This is probably the reason why the JCP phone lines are jammed and people can't get through.

    How to apply

You don't need to apply; you'll get a Cold Weather Payment automatically as long as you qualify.
Tell your pension centre or Jobcentre Plus if you think you should have received a Cold Weather Payment but you have not had one.

My In-laws have both worked all their lives, both working class manual jobs and have both paid into a pension. They are NOT entitled to the CWP.

My father who has worked most of his life but P1ssed all his money up the wall and didn't bother saving any money is on the pension credit and as such IS entitled to the CWP.......

There is little or no morality left in the majority of people any more and successive governments have encouraged people to make benefits a "Lifestyle" choice.

Great Britain is no longer Great and will continue to decline until people either start providing for themselves or the next Government has the B@lls (which I doubt) to cut the Benefit system. We have and will always needs the safety net of a benefit system but its NOW part of our culture which was NEVER what it was intended for..........
Entitlement should be linked to NI stamps....

Question: Why is Energy so Expensive???? Answer: Because the industry is Privatised and profit driven..

Where I completely understand your rant, please do not assume that it is a 'choice' for everyone to be on benefits & that a majority of us don't care. I have a lot of pride and feel embarrassed to admit to anyone that we are temporarily relying on handouts. We are instantly looked down upon & anything nice we own that was bought with our hard earned wages are assumed to have been bought with 'taxpayers money'.
Our income just about covers our living expenses. I'd much prefer to be in a well paid job so I can turn up my heating. Our house is damp but we can't move. No. Nowhere decent takes 'DSS' and because we are painted as dirty, lazy, messy layabouts who sit on our backsides all day watching daytime TV, smoking & swearing, nobody will even give us the chance to state our case. It's a straight 'no'. They don't take into consideration an excellent credit rating & an immaculate 12yr rental record with not one late bill payment, the spotless condition that our home is in or the excellent references we can provide.

It's not a good life where you're given everything on a plate.

I think that EVERYTHING should be linked to NI contributions, that way maybe we could hang on to a last shred of dignity as I hand over a welfare milk voucher to the glaring supermarket cashier.

I think Leveller meant those who make a career out of claiming benefits, and those who abuse the system.

Rise above it sweetie....no one should judge anyone until they have walked a day in their shoes. As I found out to my immense shock last year, your whole life can change in the blink of an eye (or more precisely a hospital appt!!!) so don't let small minded un-informed people get to you...you know you're a decent person so who gives a toss what they think - they don't know you after all!!!!

    Chin up x

I would love to have worked enough to have paid sufficient NI over the years to dis-entitle me to Income support and hence not receive CWP, but my medical history and past problems and surgeries have curtailed my working life over the years. Because I never qualified for Incapacity Benefit because I hadn;t paid enough NI over a sustained period I receive alternative benefit classed as Income support for their purposes. If there was no support at without NI then I guess I'd either be on the street somewhere or dossing in my mum's shed!

Believe me, if I could have chosen a different life I would have and when I had to give my last part-time job due to physical mobility problems it broke my heart :-( I am now reduced to 1/2 day a week non-physical work. We're not all choosing to p**s it up the wall - and I hate being a "charity case crip"
