  • Hi. With the weather now being very cold and expected to stay that way for the forseeable future, will we be getting any cold weather payments soon. How much is it this year?

To receive a cold weather payment you must be receiving State Pension Credit / Income Support/ Jobseeker's Allowance (Income based) / Employment and Support Allowance (Income Related) for one day in the period of cold weather and be receiving one of the following premiums:
    • Pensioner Premium
    • Enhanced Pensioner Premium
    • Higher Pensioner Premium
    • Disability Premium
    • Severe Disability Premium
    • Disabled Child Premium
    • or have a child under the age of 5
    • or receive Employment and Support Allowance (Income Related) and the applicable amount includes either the support component or the work-related activity component.

its based on weather stations which cover particuar post codes(theres a list on here somewhere)

just enter your postcode to see if a cwp payment has been triggered in your area

My husband is long-term sick (over 12 months) receiving higher rate Income Support. It is not totally clear whether or not he is entitled to cold weather payments as I don't know if this "higher rate" is classed as a disability premium. I do recall him getting an extra £15 last year as some sort of cold weather payment but cannot recall if this was a normal cold weather payment or some kind of "one-off" payment. Does anyone have any idea if he qualifies? I have emailed our local Jobcentre Plus but I have a feeling it will take a while to get a reply (assuming I get one at all).

Any help would be much appreciated.

I take it they dont keep up to date with it then?

The Met Office have notified the Department for Work and Pensions that no periods of very cold weather have occurred in the **** postcode area between 1 November 2009 and 9 December 2009 that would trigger a Cold Weather Payment. No Cold Weather Payments have been made.

Not neccessarily, it only triggers when there is 7 consecutive days, so could be that up till the 9th there hasn't been 7 days of very cold weather.
